Summer is over, but South Carolina Sportsman explains that there’s still a lot to do at the beach in its October issue.

For one, this month is a great one to catch big bull redfish at Bulls Bay, and it’s a great month to hunt deer on some of the Palmetto State’s most prized WMAs and Heritage Preserves, many of them bordering on saltwater marshes.

And it’s the month when fishermen start to flock to the bays and creeks along the Intracoastal Waterway between Charleston Harbor and Bulls Bay. South Carolina Sportsman details a handful of the best spots and how to fish them for trout, flounder and redfish.

There’s plenty for serious hunters, too, with details on getting ready for the peak of the deer rut later in the month, thanks to advice from some of the state’s best hunters. Also, October brings bear season to the mountains of the Upstate; learn how to take them with or without dogs.

Last but not least, trolling is a great way to catch landlocked stripers in the state’s reservoirs. One Lake Hartwell angler has perfected a technique that helps him put his lures right in the strike zone, resulting in more stripers and hybrids.
