Youth wing-shooting clinic will be held Aug. 1

SCDNR and the Mid Carolina Gun Club are offering a free youth wing-shooting clinic on Aug. 1.

SCDNR, Mid Carolina Gun Club will sponsor clinic in Orangeburg County.

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the Mid Carolina Gun Club are offering an opportunity to the youth of South Carolina to attend a wing-shooting clinic Aug 1 from 8:30 a.m. until 1: 30 p.m. in Orangeburg County.

The clinic focuses on participants learning to safely shoot a shotgun at a moving target with reasonable reliability and is open to 15 students ages 10 through 17.

The clinic starts with a morning shotgun safety presentation, followed by a brief, hands-on shotgun orientation session with each group’s instructor. Participants spend the morning shooting flying clay targets designed for beginning and novice shooters. Not only do the participants learn to safely handle and shoot a shotgun, but they learn that being skilled at shooting clay targets is a lot of fun. The clinic will introduce all the basic wing shooting skills needed for a successful bird hunt.

The deadline to register is July 21. Registrationi is contacting Jessica Gibson at gibsonj@dnr.sc.gov.

There is no charge for the clinic and lunch will be provided. DNR welcomes parents and guardians to stay while their students participate.
