April edition of South Carolina Sportsman now available

Turkey hunters can learn plenty of tricks to putting their tags on a tom's leg in the April edition of South Carolina Sportsman.

Turkey hunters take note: this one’s for you

April is turkey time across South Carolina. With the season beginning outside the Lowcountry on April 1, most of the Palmetto State’s fields and woodlands will be filled with the yelps, clucks and purrs of hunters trying to fool gobblers – in addition to the calls from the turkeys themselves.

South Carolina Sportsman can take you to the woods, with tips to help you take that tom, as well as a travelogue to Lake Hartwell to tag a gobbler and hook a striper or hybrid.

In addition, the monthly map/gaps feature will show you some of Lake Pocasset’s best spots for catching those big trout for which it’s famous, and just a little ways down the road, get to know a handful of small, water-supply lakes in the Spartanburg area that can make a crappie fisherman’s day.

At the coast, visit the waters off Little River, where Wahoo are the first big blue water fish targeted by fishermen who’ve been waiting all winter to go offshore, and the waters of the Low country, where a mild winter and warm temperatures have redfish ready to get into their spring pattern.

Last but not least, learn about a huge Santee Cooper catfish that’s bigger than the current state record – but ineligible for that spot because it was caught on a trot line.

All in the April issue of South Carolina Sportsman.
