Giant catfish was caught and released
Colt Turner was fishing with his daughters Anna and Linzey, 5- and 3-years-old, in June when they teamed up to catch a giant blue catfish on the Dan River.
“We saw this fish hanging out in a log along the bank of the Dan River between Danville, VA and Milton, NC while exploring the river,” said Turner.
They weren’t prepared to fish that day, but they came back the next day with fishing gear and a goal of catching the big cat.
“We came back the following day with a couple of rods and bait, and cast right inside the log,” he said. “After a combined effort of me casting into the log and getting the fish out of heavy cover, Anna on the reel, and Linzey helping hold the rod up so the cat didn’t pull Anna out of the boat, we managed to get him in a net and into the boat,” he said.
They quickly got on shore to get a good photo, then put the fish back in the water. It swam away with no complications.
“The fish was safely released,” he said. “We only kept it out of the water long enough to take a few pictures of their biggest catfish yet!”■
