My name is David Mogle, and on the evening of Thursday, December 11, 2025, I shot my personal best buck in Alamance County on family land. We have 25 acres in the northeastern corner of the county, and the deer are plentiful. I’ve been having trouble with the scope on my 30-06, so I took the buck with my dads Marlin 30-30, which I also shot my very first deer with as a kid. I’d gotten out of my stand early due to lack of deer activity, and stumbled across the buck on my several hundred yard walk back home. He was about 100 yards out, standing in the middle of the old farm road that links all our pastures. After struggling to find a blood trail, and on the verge of giving up, I checked the creek, and there he laid. From borderline heartbreak, thinking I was going to find him, to incredible joy, all within a short amount of time. It happened that Friday was my birthday, so, on the eve of my birthday, I managed to finally seal the deal on a trophy buck.
