Don Hawkins

CSM,
I, Don Hawkins of Advance, tagged out on a 5.5 year old buck we called Kickstand in Guilford county that green scored 154 1/8″ on Sunday November 10th. My tactacam reveal XPro captured the shot from my 2009 Elite GT500 bow. I lease land in Madison, Rockingham county for my family to hunt on. Saturday the 16th, opening day of rifle season my 19 year old son, Dominick Hawkins, and I sat all day in one of our box blinds on that leased property. The last deer to show, 11 minutes before last legal light, was a mature (estimated at 6/7 years old) 6 point that he was able to shoot with our Marlin X7 .243. He took the broadside shot at 80 yards and the buck ran 70 yards and expired. The buck dressed out live weight at 203.2lbs. The next day my 22 year old daughter, Makaela Hawkins, and I went back to our lease and we sat in a different box blind and at 4:45pm a 4.5 year old buck we’ve been after all season came in broadside, she shot and the gun dry-fired, we had forgotten to load a round in the chamber after climbing into the blind. I had to quietly load the gun after the buck lowered his head and she shouldered it once more and took a quartering to shot. Another tactacam reveal XPro camera captured both shots from our .243. He ran 50 yards and expired.
