McPherson shot the Bladen County 10 on Nov. 13

Meredith McPherson of Clarkton, NC killed a Bladen County 10 point buck on Nov. 13, 2022 during an afternoon hunt from a ground blind. She was joined on the hunt by her dog Maggie, and they got on site a little later than McPherson was hoping. The late start didn’t seem to matter though, as the big buck showed up right on time.

“My dog Maggie and I were running late, as usual, on Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. to get to the stand. When we arrived, Maggie was chasing a cat up a tree,” said McPherson, who went back to her truck shortly after they got in place.

“I realized I left my Pepsi in the truck, so I went back to get it. When I returned to the blind, a spike was on the corn pile,” she said.

The small deer saw McPherson and ran off. She and Maggie settled in, hoping the hunt would improve.

“As I waited patiently for it to get dark thirty, I was on my phone browsing social media when I looked up and saw what appeared to be a deer, though I wasn’t sure until it moved and all I could see were horns,” she said.

She texted her dad and brother that a big 10-point buck was in range.

“They replied, ‘shoot him,'” she said.

With the buck 150 yards away, McPherson took aim with her Savage 6.5 Creedmoor. The deer dropped on the spot.

“I replied that I dropped him in his tracks,” she said. “I’m truly blessed to be able to kill this local stud.”
