On Nov 2nd, 12 year old Claire Dalton went on her first hunt with her dad, Michael, on my farm in Blacksburg, SC. She was sitting in the blind as a 120 lb doe came into the clearing. Using the patience of a seasoned hunter, Claire waited for the right moment and pulled the trigger, striking the deer behind the right shoulder. Not only was this her first hunt, first shot and first kill, it was made more special by using her recently deceased grandfather’s 243 rifle. Claire had target practice a month before with the same rifle at the Board of Public Works Firing Range in Gaffney, SC, which helped to prepare her for this hunt.
