Second chance at 8-point bruiser proves true
Chase Wallace of Chesterfield, SC killed an 8-point bruiser in his home county on Oct. 7, 2022 during an evening hunt with his .243 Savage. He had trail cam photos of the deer leading back to July and had seen the deer while hunting before. He’d even missed a shot at the buck earlier that week.
“I’ve been hunting this deer all season. I really wanted to get him when he was in velvet with my bow. But he disappeared for a while. So I got permission on new property where I knew he was going back and forth to,” said Wallace, who was hunting from a stand overlooking a cut corn field when he killed the buck.
On Monday, Oct. 3, Wallace’s plan paid off. The buck showed up at his new locale. But the plan was foiled when the hunter missed the shot.
“He came out Monday and I missed him with my rifle. The next day, I shot my rifle and realized it was 6 inches high and left. I have no idea how it got knocked off,” he said.
After getting the rifle sighted back in, Wallace could only hope the buck would give him another chance. And it did that a few days later at 7:50 p.m.
“I got it dialed in. And that Friday, he came out hot after a doe and he ate the bullet that day,” he said.
