Surgeon’s knot is great for attaching leader to mainline
Many anglers use leaders made of fluorocarbon because of its invisibility under water. So they need a good knot for attaching the leader to their mainline. And whether your mainline is also fluorocarbon, braided line, monofilament, or a co-polymer, the surgeon’s knot is a great knot to use when tying on your leader.
This knot is easy to use, quick to tie, and has plenty of strength. And it’s not just great for attaching a leader. Anglers often use it to extend the length of their mainline. If you’ve got a full spool of line, but you somehow break off or lose a good portion of your line, you can use this knot to extend it.
