What’s new for upcoming seasons?
North Carolina’s 2019-2020 Inland Fishing, Hunting & Trapping Regulation Digest is now available. The booklet contains a few notable changes for North Carolina’s sportsmen.
For anglers:
For inland fishing, the NCWRC reminds anglers that it is now “unlawful to possess striped bass or Bodie bass (hybrid striped bass) of any size in the inland and joint waters of the Central-Southern Striped Bass Management Area. This includes the Neuse and Tar rivers.”
For hunters:
“Slingbows are now legal for hunting wild turkeys, small game, and some other species. Several species were added to broadhead and minimum pull requirements. The prohibition on the use of barbed arrowheads was eliminated. See complete details in General Hunting Regulations.
Fox squirrel hunting season was opened in all 100 counties and the season was extended to close on Jan. 31 instead of Dec. 31.
Rabbit hunting season was extended by opening it on the Monday on or nearest Oct. 15, instead of the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
The importation of cervid carcasses and carcass parts from any location outside of North Carolina was made illegal, except as specified. Complete details are in General Hunting Regulations.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service now allows states to designate up to two special waterfowl hunting days for veterans and members of the Armed Forces on active duty, including National Guard and Reserves on active duty (other than for training). Beginning with the 2019-2020 waterfowl season, the Commission established two ‘Veterans/Military Waterfowl Days’ to be held concurrent with the two Youth Waterfowl Days.
For trappers:
A uniform statewide trapping season was established for all 100 counties from Nov. 1 through the last day of February. See more info in Trapping Regulations.
Game Lands:
The 844-acre Long Ridge Tract was incorporated into the Whitehall Plantation Game Land in Pender County.”
