Deer hunting ban in one area expires tonight, three other areas get extensions

High water moved the SCDNR to place a temporary ban on deer hunting in some areas of the state. One reopens tonight, but three other areas remain closed.

Edisto area reopens tonight, three others stay closed

The Edisto River Drainage area that was a part of the SCDNR’s temporary closure on deer hunting will reopen tonight, but some other areas remained closed for a short while longers. The Santee Drainage will remain closed through midnight Oct. 17, the Black River Drainage area will also remain closed until Oct. 17 at midnight. The Waccamaw Drainage has also been extended, and this extension will expire on Oct 19 at midnight.

The SCDNR will reassess these areas in an ongoing effort to ensure the closures are lifted properly.

The closures are part of an effort by SCDNR to allow natural escape routes for deer to reappear after all the flooding the state experienced in the past ten days.

Maps of the areas can be seen here, and previous articles on the temporary deer hunting closures can be read here.
