A major problem for North Carolina rabbit hunters is gaining access to suitable private land, although interfering with deer hunters usually isn’t a concern with deer season ending Jan. 1.
Also, several N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission game lands have good rabbit habitat, some including CURE projects specifically designed to boost small-game numbers, including rabbits.
Some of the state’s top game lands for rabbits include Butner-Falls of the Neuse, Roanoke River National Wildlife Refuge, Jordan Lake, Caswell, Angola Bay, Bladen Lakes State Forest, Cape Fear Wetlands, Goose Creek, Green Swamp, Gull Rock, Lantern Acres and parts of Croatan and Holly Shelter and Suggs Mill Pond.
