Hello Ron. I want to thank you for sending the items for The Scholastic Anglers Championship. Here are the final results. The items you sent were equally distributed among the Scholastic Anglers Elite Eight with a few items going to some notables. The items you so kindly gave us truly added some flare to our prize packages! Thank you so much. I will attach a few photos. Fortunately, we still had a North Carolina Sportsman Magazine Banner from back in the day with Gerald! We displayed it loud and proud!

If you have room or get a chance, please consider this information for your News Breaker section for the North Carolina Sportsman. I will keep you posted on our planning stages for the 2015-2016 school year over the summer. Thank you again for the prizes!!!

Saturday, May 30, 2015 held the 2015 Scholastic Anglers Championship at the Why Not An American Ark facility in Monroe, NC. This location was chosen because of its wide variety of fishing opportunities. Student-anglers had the options of fishing any of three water complexes. The first body of water mostly provided heavy cover and a great deal and variety of vegetation. The second body of water featured some cover, a lot of structure, brush piles, lay downs, underwater channels, drop offs, dock pilings, and vegetation. The third body of water was vastly open water, with plenty of current flow, and an island. All three water complexes were rich with bass as well as other fish species for student-anglers to target.
To initiate this special day, student-anglers were provided with a thirty-minute 'scope-out' time period from 7:30AM until 8:00AM. The official start time was 8:00AM and the official end time was 12:00PM. This timeframe provide all of the time necessary to clearly indicate the final 2015 Scholastic Anglers Challenge Standings and the resulting final tally of the leader board. There was ample time for student-anglers to showcase their fishing skills and talents in intense, head-to-head interscholastic sport fishing education and competition. About one-half of the contending field Put Their School's Pride On The Line for one last ditch effort to climb their way up the Scholastic Anglers Challenge Leader Board. Some cracking the cut line for the 2015 Scholastic Anglers Elite Eight at the last minute.
The day started off with a 'bang!' The fish, quality large mouth bass, started to come to the scales early and often. The action was fast and furious enough for most student-anglers to quickly make adjustments in strategy, lure selection, presentation, and location. To begin the day, the early, top water bite was on and many student-anglers caught on to the pattern. The fish were located in heavily covered grass mats. As the sun made its arch up in the sky and the heat turned on, student-anglers had to make adjustments and go to deeper water with structure. Many student-anglers picked up on the pattern to slow down and fish with finesse requiring much more patience. However, the fish continued to be brought to the scales at a slightly slower rate.
On the day thirty-six quality large mouth bass were caught along with a multitude of other species mostly bream and crappie. The largest fish of the day was a 4.75 pound large mouth bass caught by Matthew Taylor, of Sun Valley Fishing. The most fish was caught by the Scholastic Angler Of The Year, Jon Spencer, of Marvin Ridge Fishing, with three large mouth bass and six bream. Other notables were Sean C., of Sun Valley Fishing with eight total fish, Malakai M., of Marvin Ridge Fishing with eight fish, Matthew T., of Sun Valley Fishing with four fish (all bass), Daniel Karcha, of Sun Valley Fishing, with three fish (all bass), Brandon Gantz, of Sun Valley Fishing, with two bass and two bream, and Rusty Dunlap, of Sun Valley Fishing, with two bass and one bream.
This event wraps up the 2014-2015 Scholastic Anglers season. Student-anglers will continue to fish over the summer to refine their interscholastic sport fishing skills and talents. The photos will continue to come and and these accomplishments will be posted over the summer along with many other feature stories in regard to interscholastic sport fishing education and competition. Many of these photos are certain to come from the salt water realm while vacationing.
Over the summer, Scholastic Anglers encourages student-anglers to fish as much as possible. We look forward to seeing any and all student-anglers back for the 2015-2016 traditional school calendar year. Until next season, good luck and tight lines!!!
For any and all other student-anglers wanting to PUT YOUR SCHOOL'S PRIDE ON THE LINE, join in on the interscholastic sport fishing education and competition at the start of the upcoming school year. The forecast looks like a great day to take up a new, innovative, intense, and exciting school sport!
