  • I killed this buck on Nov. 14, 2012 he is a buck I have been hunting for a while. I got lots of trailcam photos of him at least 5 or more of him every week since October after no sign of him in years since his first appearance 3 yrs ago on the trailcams. Even had plenty of daylight pics of him, just never could be at the right place right time. On November 14 I had 30 minutes to hunt before work and was just layin in bed dreaming about him, so I figured why not just go sit and enjoy the sunrise anyway. After getting setup not 15 minutes being in the stand I seen a huge bodied deer walk out on the old fence line coming out of the pine thicket walking to the oak ridge. I could tell it was a shooter so I put the crosshair on him and shot. It was about 130 yards, when I shot he just ran like he wasn't hit. I waited a few minutes and went to look for blood, could not find a drop. After searching for a while for blood I just walked up on the pond dam, looked down in the bottom and could see his tines. As I got closer I could see droptines and was amazed it was the buck I have been after for a while I was speechless. I called my wife and all my buddies before I even grabbed onto him. He ended up having more points than I thought. He weighted a lil over 200 pounds, with 21 points and a total of 4 droptines two smaller ones and 2 long ones, he has ball bat mass all the way out you can see in pictures I can't get my had around his antlers even above his brows and 3 more points over 2 inches long coming out of his bases on the back. I have had my best year ever. I took another hit list buck 1 week earlier an 8 point pushing 140's.

This is a buck I've come to know very well over the years. I have hundreds of pics of him over the years and alot of encounters, but this year he was finally old enough. I called him 8-ball the pick with me and him isn't great my father-in-law took it with his phone and from several feet away lol so u can't really grasp how tall he is or how long his main beam really is. He has the lonest main beam on any buck I've ever take and I've taken several nice ones. I included 2 trail pics of him to see his rack better and the one shows how long his main beam is, it passes his nose before ever turning back in. I have day picks. I just think black and white makes it easier to see antlers and judge them better.

There truly has been some giants killed this year from everywhere. I like Chatham county it's a big county with no big cities. Mostly farms and stuff but your right there are alot of big housing developments going up. That's why I'm glad everywhere I hunt is owned by family.

I'm glad there is no dog hunting in Chatham County or I'm sure things would be different around here too. Nothing against dog hunting at all, I just like sitting in peace, and I'm sure it's hard to control where the dogs go. As far as trespassers go. I haven't had a big problem with it. Maybe once or twice a year. The farms are good size and most of the people leaving around are good friends anyway. Hope to see alot of big ones from you guys in the future and y'all have got some nice ones already I can see too.

Thanks. Hope your season was great. I agree droptines add alot of character, the one coming down right at the base is wicked it comes out 5 inch then turns down another 5 inches. Thanks again.

I've tried several different kinds of minerals. The ones I use most is The Trophy Rock, Whitetail Institute 30-06 blue bag, and Black Magic it works pretty good too. I can't wait til the Dixie Deer Classic either. There should be alot of nice ones from NC this year. I'm taking mine. Thanks for all the comments guys, hope everybody had a great year as well.

Yes I have pics of him from the years past. Here are 2 from 3 years ago. He carries the same characteristics from back then even the back sweep on his left G2 with the fork. He just added more points including 3 more droptines 1 super cool one, alot of mass and got wider. I put out minerals year round and food, and some food plots. My biggest thing is keeping the pressure off my deer only hunting when the wind is right no matter how bad I want to hunt another stand. I shot all my deer by age not size. I only shoot bucks 4+ years old. I have several bucks that would go 130's and over. But have years to grow. I gain new bucks every year because other people push them off there land with pressure and they end up staying on my farms. As for the shot it was right behind the shoulder, but not exit. The bullet was sticking out on the opposite side just under the skin. Thank God he only ran 40 yards or I would have claimed it as a miss, for lack of sign. Thanks again and I welcome the questions.
