Went to Badin this morning, knowing the wind was going to be tuff again, bait was hard to get, finally found a few gizzards. Ended up with 7 blues and 1 channel. The biggest two blues were, 24.7 and 34.10. Finally had enough of the wind at around 11:00 am and called it.

Late post, but had a good day with a couple of decent fish on 2/27. Caught 13 blues, no monsters but a couple in the 30's and a couple in the 20's. Fished two more times since then caught several fish but all small, the wind has been tough on the days I could go !

Fished this morning, got four blues with the biggest 58.8 lbs. He gave me a fit, one of the best if not the best fight a blue has ever gave me. Here's a couple of pics

Nice to see them in the January issue. Winter is a good time to catch big blue cats.

Fished a Catfish Tourney this past saturday on Badin. The bite was slow , we got two bites all day, missed one, got the other, it was a 35.4 lb. blue that got us second place in the tourney and big fish, so it wasn't all bad. The winners had 49 lbs with two flatheads. Fifteen teams fished the tourney that had a two fish limit. Here's a picture of my partner with our blue.

A comment titled: Tips in response to a report titled: Tillery 1/21/13

The best tip I have is to get out there and spend time on the water. Then use cut baits from fish that live in the lake, mix in some live baits when early spring gets here. Fish ledges and humps, anchor your boat to where you can place baits in different depths, fish like to hang on and around the channel ledges this time of year, but a good current may make them travel a little if they pick up the scent of your baits. Be patient and put as many baits in the water as you can ( more scent ), I fish 10 rods at a time, you won't hang up or cross lines as much as you would think. Last, release the big ones to grow even bigger, keep the smaller ones to eat. Good Luck

A comment titled: Cut Bait in response to a report titled: Catfishing Rigs

This time of year I use all cut bait, no live bait. I've caught them on cut bream, but I'd rather have waccamore ( white perch ), gizzard shad, threadfin or herring if you can find them. Live bait will work better later on, around spring when the water starts warming back up. I like using the heads and gut pockets, the back third of the bait will work if the fish is big enough, just cut the tail off.

I think it was caught at santee, I think in the santee river, not the lakes,I believe it weighed 108 when it was caught. The last time I talked to the guy at BPS that takes care of the fish , he said he thought it would go in the 120's and that was a year ago.

Good luck when you go, I'll be fishing when the weather permits from now until next deer season. The State record Blue ( 89 lbs, Badin ) was caught a few years ago by a guy I know, he was striper fishing too.

There are not many laws that protect Trophy Catfishing, so I release all Big Cats so somebody else and maybe I can catch them again. I do keep some to eat sometimes, but nothing over 10 lbs.

A comment titled: Tillery in response to a report titled: Catfishing Rigs

Try dropoffs and ledges along the main lake channel. Fresh cut bait will be your best bet. They will eat any fish that lives in the lake but white perch ( waccamore ) gizzard shad, other pan fish work good. Be patient, the bite can be a little slow at times but don't leave a spot too quick. Anchoring is what I usually do, I fish 10 rods at a time, with the santee rig, down current. Good Luck

We don't catch any in the yadkin chain lakes big enough to eat. I've heard the ones up north are pretty good.
