  • This is a 17 lb 10 oz Blue we caught today out of High Rock. He was caught in the main river channel on the bottom. He bit a 6 inch whole shad. I have fished for years in High Rock and this is only the second one we've ever caught. The other one was 5 lb and we caught him on a jug. We caught 15 cats today from 3:30 pm to 8 pm. A few channels but mostly flatheads ranging from 5 pounds to 25.8 pounds but this was the highlight of our day!

    OK, I need some help.

I'm wanting to go down to Badin and try and target some blues. I would like to know how its mostly done. I usually fish High Rock and I anchor down and fish on the bottom in about 16 ft of water but I know Badin is much, much deeper than this. We normally only catch flatheads and channels.

I'm not sure if I need to try and drift or find somewhere not so deep and anchor? Also what kind of rig should I use if I drift?

I don't want any spots or anything like that, just an idea to help get me started and I'll post the results when I get back.

    Thanks
    Cooper

Heres a 37 pound flathead I caught at High Rock 3 weeks ago.

This is a picture of my side kick holding a blue catfish we caught this morning on a jug line. It weighed 5 lbs.

We caught one other blue that was about 8 inches long and a ton more channels with the smallest being 3 pounds.

I never knew high rock had any blues in it, out of all the times fishing for catfish here this was our very first blue. Does anyone know where or how to target these blues on High Rock?

Sorry for the poor video quality. I recorded this big cat catch on my phone and forgot to turn the phone. Either way this is one of 4 we caught about this size in the river on High Rock today, in about 3 hours time. We used live Shad to catch these. All were released.

Just a little example of missing a fishing and getting right back in there to catch her the second time.

Thanks. I live in High Rock so its pretty much the only body of water I ever fish and I grew up here so I've been fishing it for about 18 years now and this was the first Blue I've ever caught. Back in the spring we caught some nice flatheads all around 20 or so pounds but I was just curious if anyone has caught any giant blues out of high rock. I know the Blues get a lot bigger than flatheads and that's something I'm interested in targeting. I appreciate the comments!

The bad thing is he actually hooked him about ten minutes before I started filming. We fished from about 1 to 7 today ad caught 3, one came off and one broke the line when it got around the anchor. We need to get some heavier line cause we're only using 17 lb test. We used bream and Shad today. I was using the camera on my phone again. It only took about ten mins to upload to YouTube.

Thanks! I appreciate it. I forgot my scale but I was guessing around 20 or so. The water temp today was 69. We were actually right at the mouth of Potts creek on the bottom in 12 ft of water. My fishing partner is pretty knowledgeable. He's usually always with me. Hopefully I can get some better footage.

Yeah it was excellent conditions, I haven't caught that many in that short of time since last spring. Actually I did hear what sounded like some turkeys yelping. I catfished the other day for a couple hours in crane creek, we caught 5 channels in about 4 hours, the biggest was 4 lb. We were using liver, worms, and stink bait but they were only hitting the worms

Yeah it was in Second Creek. I actually used the video on my Droid RAZR. I had about 45 minutes of footage of catching 9 bass that I was going to condense down but someone called and it stopped recording and didn't save the video. I love those scales, they're perfect for knowing which ones to cull come tournament day!

Thanks! Yeah it was, she was between a Christmas tree and a post spaced about 2 foot apart in 3 ft of water.
