My daughter Macy got her first turkey. It came in with 7 other young gobblers. One jake was the domimant one and it had about a 6' or 7' beard. It strutted in front of us. Macy could not ever get a clear shot at the strutter. The turkeys were all bunched up. I started yelping at them and they all gobbled in our face. But they would not seperate enough for Macy to get a shot. When they started to ease off a tad one seperated from the other to our right. Macy asked if she could shoot him. I told her to go ahead and take him. She fired and folded him up at 35 yards with Remington 870 Youth Camo 20 gauge. We got up and high fived. Went to go out and get him. He was a big jake. He weighted 14 lb. 6 oz. with 5 1/4' beard and 3/8' spurs. He had a pretty fan with white in the cemter feather. She took her turkey on Thursday 4-11-13
I seen that to photo contest winning photo was on a Smokey Grey Phase Jake. I thought I would share a picture of a Smokey Grey Phase Bearded Hen I took back 2005.
