  • My daughter Macy got her first turkey. It came in with 7 other young gobblers. One jake was the domimant one and it had about a 6' or 7' beard. It strutted in front of us. Macy could not ever get a clear shot at the strutter. The turkeys were all bunched up. I started yelping at them and they all gobbled in our face. But they would not seperate enough for Macy to get a shot. When they started to ease off a tad one seperated from the other to our right. Macy asked if she could shoot him. I told her to go ahead and take him. She fired and folded him up at 35 yards with Remington 870 Youth Camo 20 gauge. We got up and high fived. Went to go out and get him. He was a big jake. He weighted 14 lb. 6 oz. with 5 1/4' beard and 3/8' spurs. He had a pretty fan with white in the cemter feather. She took her turkey on Thursday 4-11-13

A comment titled: Decoys in response to a report titled: DECOYS

I use to use Feather Flex decoys. I ahd hens and jakes. I killed one turkey back in 1998. I do not use them much anymore. But If I was to use them I would either get some from DSD Dave Smith Decoys or ones from Avian X. They both look really real but are expensive.

A comment titled: 20 gauge in response to a report titled: 20 guage

I have set up my daughter with a Remington 870 youth 20 gauge. I patterned her gun @ 40 yards. I am using a Indian Creek .562 choke with Hevi 13 3' 1/1/4 oz. #7 loads. I got 154 pellets in a 10' circle at 40 yards. Which is as good as I use to get with lead #5's in with my 12 gauge. 20 gauges can greater done with the right load and choke combo.

I use mouth calls from a from different makers. My favorite is Hook's Custom Calls.I also use some from Primos,Knight and Hale, and HS Strut.I most use the Hook's Custom Mouth call the most. One they have called 'The Pro' is a good one. There a lot of guys out there making custom mouth calls. Do some searches you should find a bunch. Mouth call are my number one go to caller. Good Luck

Nice pattern. I used to use the Kicks Gobbling Thunder choke tube in my Remington 11-87. I used the old Federal 3' 2oz. #5 with good success.

Congrat's on two nice game lands bucks. What load do you use for deer in your BAR? I got a 270 BAR. I love mountain hunting too. I have hunted deer in the small game lands North of Shelby but have yet to see any deer of that size. I love the mountain game lands too. Thanks for sharing, Mike

A comment titled: A week for youth in response to a report titled: Changes for 2012 & 2013 turkey season

I personally would like a whole week for youth turkey season. My daughter would love a chance to get a afternoon gobbler after school. See has a few Satutdays she gets to hunt during the season. Between dance competations and other thing on Saturday and school she does not get but a few days of turkey hunting in. So with a week long youth season she would get one or to more chances to bag a turkey. My daughter would be OK with only shooting one turkey a day too. I do not think this week long youth turkey season would hurt a thing.

Looks like it will be a good show. I hope this will help the Turkey Call Show be only a turkey hunting show. I love other types of hunting. But when I tune in to Turkey Call I expect see turkey hunting not deer hunting.
