  • Hey was wondering if anyone knew about black pictures from a trail camera? Not going to mention the brand but it is a medium priced camera and has been a dang good one for 3 years. Now it will take 150 pictures and 100 will be black. Never ever done this, but now it is getting a little frustrating trying to check pictures. I think it is worn out. I have probably taken 10,000 pictures with it if not more. Just wondering if it is time to get a new one or what. By the way when the batteries are at 100% to about 80% it seems to do a lot better. When the batteries drop under 80% it takes mostly black pictures. But like I said just started doing this about a month ago.

After much needed help from some of our members, I have another question or concern I need help on. Do any of you think there is certain spots that only hold does? I will kinda go through the spill again but shorten it up. Been hunting this spot for 4 years now. I can set my watch by the doe traffic in this area (all the time). I have thinned some out over the years, I hunt from daylight until dark. Every year I take the whole month of Nov. off just to hunt. I also have a lot of time to hunt in Dec. due to my job schedule. So being in the woods is no problem for me. In four years I have only seen 5 bucks and all has been small racks, spikes, 4 points, and maybe 1 6 point but small. I have 3 trail cams out and have some big freak nasties, on cam. 2 HUGE 8 points and a BIG BIG BIG BIG 10 point. All these pictures are at night and they use the same trail every time. The only time I have them on cam is the 4 or 5 weeks of the rut process making or checking scrapes. I have never used any attractants or calls until this year when a couple members told me to try some different things. Can call worked 2 times but very small bucks come to it and it was right in the peak of the rut. Mixing sweet potatoes with my corn (shelled and cobbed) worked but again Does Does Does and a couple small bucks but they was all at night. I was in the woods during the rut and saw bucks chasing does and it was all scrubs. I did take a spike and a messed up 4 point I thought needed to come out. The big bucks are there, because I have them on cam but I'm not seeing them except at night. I'm patient and have been for several years now but it's killing me. I have had some great places to hunt over the years and with farmers dieing out and land being sold I have lost some great spots. I;m hunting a creek bottom at my dads that is on the edge of a thick cut-over. We do not own the cut-over so I need to know if there is something I can do to bring the bucks out. I have 3 main trails coming out of the cut-over to my stand area that looks like I-85. I get the pictures of the bucks at night but none during the day. I know the big boys don't get big being dumb. But as much time as I spend in the woods it seems like just 1 would show up during the rut or right before dark or something. I'm going to try Deer Cane starting this coming Jan. and keep it going all year. If you have any pointers please give me a suggestion. I will never give up but it is really trying my patients over the last 3 or 4 years.

Well I have tried 2 methods the last 2 yrs. I have always kept shelled corn out and also I have tried cobbed corn the last 2 yrs also. Never not one time seen a deer eating off the cobb. While in my stand or on trail camera. Coons love it and the dang tree rats have a fest on it. Can anyone tell me why and does anyone have any luck with cobbed corn? I have a friend that swears by it but I have never had any luck with it, but this is the only thing he puts out. so they have no option to eat shelled corn.

OK here is my problem. I have 4 trail cams out with 2 being on 2 different scrape lines. I have 10 different bucks. I have hundreds of photos of these bucks and all is at night. NONE is during any kind of daylight hours. I have been in the woods since last Monday from daylight till dark and have seen quite of few does this week. But NO bucks at all. Rut is not in yet, but I'm starting to get kinda worried. Same thing last year all at night but only killed one buck last year and that was a day the rut was in full swing. My question is can I or how do I get these bucks to show their head gear during daylight? I have friends who hunt and they see and kill bucks but I am at a lost for words. This is 2 years in a row the bucks are nocturnal. I know they are smarter and that is the beast of it but with as much time as I spend in the woods (NOV 1 thru DEC 1 daylight til dark)and on my off days the whole month of Dec. it seems like one would eventually show up. PLEASE help. Can I put out attractants or what?

Just became a member but have read here for months. My question is.... How do I upload pics or make a pic album? When I filled out my information the last thing was to select a profile picture. I did that and went to the pic i wanted on my hard drive, double clicked on it and it transferred the link to the proper space but it never connected and uploaded it. I tried three times and the same thing. Please help if you can. Thanks in advance.

Brand new to the site, but been reading here for months. Sounds like a wealth of knowledge and good information. Have hunted for the last 6 days up until this morning. Rut is not doing anything that I have seen here yet but I feel it is very close. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday. Heading back to the woods this evening to get back at it. Might try some rattling this afternoon. If anyone has in information or updates on the rut here in Cabarrus/Rowan county please post for us all.

I just also zoomed it and I say a Red Fox or a very large male Grey Fox. Color quality when I zoom is not what it should be. Red is what I would lay the money on.

OK tested my 2 cameras and GobbT you were right. NO FLASH. Guess the flash has bit the dust. These 2 cameras are about 5 or 6 years old and they are Moultrie's but been well worth the money (MORE THAN HAPPY WITH THEM). I am kinda not wanting to fix them because I got these 2 on sale for like 69 dollars. I don't think your friend could fix these and make it worth my while, because the price of these cameras are so cheap. I am liking that Moultrie M-80 to try out the other guys are talking about. Going to do some research on these little boogers.

A comment titled: Reviews in response to a report titled: Black Pictures

GobbT I have read I think all the reviews on the internet. All 7.9 MILLION (LoL) on Cuddebacks. I have mixed emotions on them. I feel if you get a good one then you love it. If you get a bad one you hate it. If I knew another trail cam with a trigger speed of under a sec or close to it other than Cuddeback I think I would try that one first, or a very good camera worth the money I would jump all over it. Seems Cuddeback has some major issues to try to work through. If you can help I would honestly consider a change of mind. The only reason I don't have a Cudde now is because of the reviews. For the money and technology you would think they would be a great gadet. I have to buy at least 2 more I think to replace the 2 I removed today. I will check them tomorrow and let you know what is going on with them.

GT been doing good man just working a lot hope you are doing good also. Still get on here and read but it's right before I go to bed. I brought the 2 cams that is given me problems in today and I'm going to try them after while and see if it works. I have definitely got my moneys worth out of these 2 cameras and probably your money too. They have been great. i think I'm going to upgrade to maybe a cuddeback attack ir. I'm replacing 4 cameras this year and I think I'm going with them. I will let you know what turns out on the 2 I'm trying tonight that I took out of the woods today.

I have never seen anything like this before. SOB's. I knew that they get so younger deer and I have always kind of thought that this was the life cycle but I never dreamed they would actually take a mature buck down and do this. Damn KILL THEM ALL!!

Man that's great!! I getting back at it in the morning and Saturday. I did hear a buck grunting last night in the pasture and it sounded like a freight train in the pasture so I'm sure he was running a doe. Man I hope I see some action tomm morning. I hunted from Nov 1st through Nov 25th and never once saw a Buck chasing a doe. So I guess I missed the rut. Maybe I will catch the POST RUT!!

A comment titled: Does in response to a report titled: Question about does

Well I actually read on the internet last week and have always been told that does will abandon there yearlings when the rut is close. I have noticed for several years this has held to be true. But I have also noticed that after the rut they start to come back together but not really as they were before the rut. Small deer are not right with their mother. I think they are starting to venture out on their own a little. Maybe the rut in your area is over and the mature does are breed already and they are starting to herd back up. The post rut will only be for the few does that was not breed during the rut. This is just my opinion on what I have saw for several years and what I read on the web. Hope this helps.

A comment titled: Ohio in response to a report titled: Ohio deer hunting

I have hunted in Ohio for many years. I hunt in Lawerence Co. This 2 is game lands (Wayne National if I am correct on that). Right outside of Waterloo, Ohio. Even on Game lands up there, the hunting is out of this world. 7 people in our family hunting trip every year and we all have chances to kill a nice 8pt 15 16 inches wide. 1 of us usally kills a 150 160 class. ALMOST EVERY YEAR. My cousin killed a 170 3/8 12 point in 2004 up there. So just on a bet it is worth your time to go and hunt it, or at least see what it is about. If you could ask around about private land to hunt, you may find some also. Kinda different up there. People (most) are still willing to let people hunt if they ask and are nice about it. I sure wish it was like that down here still. Just my 2 cents worth. Wish you the best of luck!!

All my deer have stopped coming to the corn pile too. Only a few young deer is coming in right now. I think they have said the heck with the corn and acorns and now they are interested in finding a date. Girlfriend season my friend.

A comment titled: Thanks in response to a report titled: Help on how to hunt Mulitiple nighttime bucks

Fellas thanks for the advice!! I can't get in the cutovers because it does not belong to me. I have stands at the edge of the cutovers and also over looking the creek bottom. I have been hunting 25+ years and the last 2 yrs have just got me stumped. I have never used any scents, grunts, or never even rattled, but I'm willing to try anything. I do bait with corn. I have not actually had a buck in my corn pile during daylight hrs this yr. I have always killed deer so never seen a need to use the above methods. If you can suggest anything else I'll sing at your wedding!! But again thanks for the input on this problem I'm having!!
