Well guys and gals it has been great week of hunting thus far....cant wait to see wat this evening holds as I settle in my treestand....no I havent killed a freak nasty but I have seen deer, seen a little rutting activity, plus I got to spend my 24th bday in doing wat I love to do hunting....my bday was thursday and I was really antcipateing a good hunt,i took my climber into a new spot and was real excited bout wat the morning held....well I had the perfect wind for where I thought the deer would come from but they came in on a hillside behind and busted me...so here I sit all mad at myself for making such a dumb mistake when I noticr to does out in front of me feeding on acorns....as I watch them I begin to realize how blessed im am to be out there in the woods hunting, I begin to reflect on my past seasons of hunting with my gpa and blessed I was to get to have thag opportunity...i realized its not all about killing a swamp donkey but just being able to experience ths outdoors is just as rewarding in some aspects...so yall I encourage ya to make the most of every hunt and cherish the memories you make in the woods with friends or love ones....cause life is short and time stands still for no man....also be sure too thank the Good Lord for blessing us with the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. Stay safe and happy hunting yall!!!

Hey everybody wats yalls take on putting out corn?this may have already been discussed so sorry for asking again...but I was wandering how do you think we would do if it was illegal to bait...dont get me wrong I cut my hunting teeth over corn piles and food plots, and I still hunt them, but im curious as how we would do if we couldnt corn no more...given our deer populations I think we could still seal the deal espically if we invested our 'corn' money in food plots.....wat yall think?

    October 26, 2011 at 7:40pm

Well yall gotta question for ya...on one of the farms I hunt gotta a few spots I wanna try this year, the kinda spots you pack a lunch and sit all day...the only draw back is im 99% sure im gonna spook deer getting in and out of them. So my question is do i go and give it a shot or just leave them alone...i really believe theyre the kinda spots where ol big boy may hang out just not sure wats the best option...my gut says hunt them just not hunt them hard....wats yalls opinion?

Hey guys and girls just wanted to share some info with yall. My grandpa shared this with me when I was younger and it aint felled me yet that I can recall. Next time your in the deer woods and you here a owl start paying attention for deer cause this is a sign theyre moving...i know it sounds crazy and yall prolly think im a quack but I usually see deer thirty mintues after the ol hoot owl sounds off. Going into my 14th season and like I said it aint felled me yet that I can recall.....neways just thought I would share...let me know wat you think or how it works for ya.

I would look at either the zeiss conquest line or the Leupold vx3 line for that can of money. I have several of the old vxlll and they are good scopes and I hear that the glass is better n the newer vx3. With that being said I have a friend who has several zeiss conquests and he says they are slightly better than his leupold vx3. If you had a little more money to spend I would look into the Swarovski z3 stuff. But for what you are willing to spend I would look real hard at the zeiss, I have read on a lot of forums that it is brighter or has better clarity than the leupold. I think both have great warranties so that shouldn't be a problem. There's a great forum called optics talk that has a wealth of info on it, I'd post the question there and see what they say, not that I am saying people on this site don't know what they are talking about, I'm just saying it's another place to gain knowledge. So please don't anyone take offence to my advice. Also the sponsors of that forum is a company called swfa, they sell optics and they have good prices on stuff, great customer service, plus they have thing called the sample list where they sale used scopes at good prices. They rate the scope based on condition and some of thm are basically knew with the warranty still, so that may be an option. I know midwayusa has some good prices, and opticsplanent is another choice. My best advice would be to buy the best scope, you can afford and you should be fine. Oh yeah cabelas has a new line of scopes with euro glass that are reasonable priced that might be worth looking at too.

Thanks for sharing and glad everything turned out ok. I can relate ive had two encounters like this...the first happened when I was still huntn with my grandpa, he dropped me off at one farm and he went to hunt another...well im in a figure of trees between two fields, and im seeing deer and hsppen to check the field behind me and see a small buck turn back around to watch the food plot and bam a gun goes off I turn around and see a guy in full camo behid me in the field who has just shot the buck...i just set tight and we got it all resovled once my gpa came and got me...turns out the landowners so had given this guy permission and we didnt knw....the other happened last year opening day off rifle...i was in the stand when I notice three deer come boltn athru the woods im exceptn to see a buck ne mintue but nothing.....i just happen to look over at a road bed and a black spot catches my attention at first I m thinking dog then I notice a brown spot too...i grab my bios and realize its two guys one in a brown carhartt jacket they both have guns and are just strolling up the road bed....i recongize them and lets just say them the landowner and I had a chat....wat happen to respect and common sense, wearing a brown jacket walking around in the woods in deer season? Beats me!!

A comment titled: That time of year in response to a report titled: Deer not eating corn

I agree with timberghost...i thnk it has alot to do with the rut....the during ml season I was seeing a good number of deer on food plots and corn but now im not....i thnk its the rut combined wth warm temps and a earlier full moon this year thats changed things...just let it turn cold and it should pick up.

Well timberghost I agree with ya man its slow this year for sure....im off work bascially all month hunted everyday last week in the am and pm and only saw good rutting activity on tuesday...had bucks fighting, grunting and chasing that day....now I cant hardly see a buck, food plots will be full of does and I cant even see little bucks out chasing the does....onr of my morning set ups usually all produces several bucks out on the prowl for does it hasnf this year..only seen three bucks in that set...i agree with ya though with the moon/cold front watch out this weekend...hey by the way is dean matthews mounting your buck?
