  • Good lil shoot before work this past week. Was one shy of a 3 man limit of woodies, shooting just drakes. Even pulled out a band! Its sitting on top of the 4th one from the left.

Looks like it may of been broke in early velvet to me, then continued growing up. I've got several good broad side body pics of both sides, and he doesn't seem to have any injuries or scars. Pretty unique either way.....looks like an upside down backwards beam with the g2 on the bottom lol. What you think

Irene left my low ground a lil flooded, didn't run them off but I'm sure its hard to eat in 2 feet of water.

Two bucks I've watched the past couple of years. Just hoping they'll show back up this year. The heavier one should be a real stud this year at 4 1/2. He added a lot of mass and tine length last year, cant wait to see what he's holding this year!

Congrats, that's a good looking buck. Pelletier does some really good work. Haven't carried anything to her in years, but I have had several done by her. Always pleased with her work.

Been a long time viewer but just started posting and using the site more this past fall. Maybe I'll get lucky and have some to enter this spring :)

Man I tell you, as much as I love to shoot a big buck or flock of mallards with their feet down, there's just something about the spring of the year. Hard to find anything to compare to that big tom coming in strutting side to side, gobbling his head off. Don't know if anything gets my heart racing more (hope my lady doesn't read this lol). Man after reading your post I'm ready right now! Had to look though some pics and relive last spring myself.

GT that doesn't sound right. I didn't realize they did that. Have you tried both the post office and wally world?

Thanks for the comments guys. GT, he's actually only 13 months. This is his first season, but he's doing exceptionally well. He's got a head full of sense, and absolutely loves it. Just wish there were more birds around. Its been a tough year to get a young dog in some good hunting.

A comment titled: Different in response to a report titled: buck

Yeah I'm pretty sure its a different deer. Looking at those last pics that should be a really nice looking deer this year. Doesn't look older than 3.5 and shouldn't be making any down grades.

A comment titled: Don't think so in response to a report titled: buck

I'd say not just looking at those. Do you have another pic from last year? Maybe one that shows the brows. I think he's 3.5 maybe 4.5 at most.

That's one hell of a deer. Like you said not much mass, but man he's got some long beams. I'd say all over top of 22' wide. Someone's gonna have a memorable hunt for sure.

A comment titled: Reversed Genes Lol in response to a report titled: Damaged in velvet or grew like this? What ya'll think?

That's a good one Viper, that's what it looks like lol. I've been hunting this land all my life and using cameras the last 8 years. In all that time I've never seen or had pics of anything with significant abnormal antler growth. Mostly solid main frame bucks with the occasional kicker. Which made me think something had to be a factor, but maybe not........

A comment titled: Fibroma in response to a report titled: what is this???

Its a tumor or wart-like growth known as fibroma. I've seen it grow so large on deer that it almost covered their entire face. Don't think they're sure on what exactly causes it or how its spread, and claim it doesn't harm the meat.

A comment titled: Rem Core-lokts in response to a report titled: Need some input from the huntin community

Rem core-lokts are probably the most inexpensive load out there and VERY dependable. I've used them in all different cals from .223 and up. They always shoot well and perform on the other end. I've strayed from time to time and tried different loads because of how well someone may say they are, but I've always come back to the core-lokt.

Creek the water has finally fallen back out, I just checked them today. Access to this land is by boat to begin with. It adds a lil more work but normally pays off

I'd agree with Viper, gotta be at least 5.5 plus. He's got a massive body structure, large broad chest with defined shoulders, sagging belly.......

A comment titled: New Moon in response to a report titled: Moon Phases and Deer Movement

I typically don't bother looking on charts or worry about the moon phase either, if I've got the time I'm out there. But this past year I did take notice to something. Normally by mid Nov (post rut) any mature buck I've been hunting becomes nocturnal or even seems to vanish. As normal this happened with three bucks I had regularly been getting pictures of day and night. Then after seeing neither for a month all three showed up morning and evening light, for three days straight, note they are not all at the same location. This happened the week of 12/6 and the calendar had the new moon on 12/5. So this year I can assure you even if things have seemed to slow a bit, I'll be sure to be in the woods the week of that moon.

A comment titled: Nice! in response to a report titled: Shooter 9pt

Man it would be tough to let one like that walk, but he does look young and probly still holds a lot of potential. But unless you've got a good size piece land where you know he'd be safe, someone's definitely gonna shoot him. It'd be nice to see what he'd be in a year, but I don't think there's a soul that would blame you for taking him.....very nice deer!
