I am going to oak island this week and am wondering whats going on right now. I am limited to surf and pier fishing, so im wondering what i should use this time of year? ive been there plenty of times but not at this time of year. I know that the trout, bluefish, and spanish fishing from shore and pier are good in the summer and fall, but thats about all i know. i havent been able to find any reports at all so far online. I will be fishing on ocean crest pier. I might also be going to some creeks for redfish, trout and flounder.
Does anyone know where to catch blue cats near raleigh? i know jordan, the neuse, falls lake, and the cape fear has them. but none of those arent very productive for a shore fisherman like my self. i was thinking possibly crabtree creek. please tell me what you know. ive just been so bored lately scince the flatheads arent biting, and channels are to small to be any exitement to me
if you ask north carolina wildlife agents or officers they will tell you there are no gator gar in nc. ive heard some talk that they are in the white oak, but most people say those are just big longnose gar. i am very interested in these fish. how does anyone feel about having the nc wildlife agency consider stocking these in lakes or rivers around here. they get a bad rap but i hear they can be good sport fish and put up a tremendous fight. tell me what you think.
caught this guy at lassiter falls crabtree creek on a live chub. put up a good fight. 5 minutes later one much bigger broke my rod, then my line. i was using a 2/0 size hook, 30 pound test and an 8 foot rod with a spinning reel. had a one oz egg sinker 1 foot from the bait and fished in about 15 feet of water under the falls in the back corner. there are 50 pound fish in there. i mainly use live bluegill, chubs, redbreasts, warmouths, or green sunfish as bait.
