Finished up tags in the rain here Saturday. 4 Sumter National Forest birds and the wet one here at the farm.
Also killed a 70-80lb wild hog with 12ga 3' magblends at 20 yards.

    Fall trip.

    October 19, 2011 at 11:29pm

Me, my Dad and a friend all made the first rifle draw hunt down at Hamilton Ridge WMA the past three days. We all saw deer and hogs. A fantastic place and hunting experience. Dad got a doe, Mitch got a doe and hog and both saw bucks that did not meet the antler restrictions. I took my bow and was able to arrow a nice doe and a dandy 9 point buck, my largest with archery gear to date. Have a great deer season.

Found low water and high water temps (66-70 degrees)this past Friday. We need rain badly.

Not sure if this is acceptable but here's a short video of me and my son on a recent trip to a NC brook trout stream.

A comment titled: spurs in response to a report titled: Where do you measure from ?

I measure mine from the long side bur (inside of leg) to the tip straightline. NWTF measures from the bottom side around the full curve to the tip.

    http://www.nwtf.org/for_hunters/how_to_score.html

Average turkey leg is almost always .75 front to back. A good set of spurs will always look longer than the thickness of the leg so a photo of spurs usually tells whether someone's claim of their length is accurate or not.

    Viper,
Those are not prepared shooting lanes, just an old pasture edge. I guess it looks like a foodplot in the vid but it's not. I know what you mean about hunting thickets and tangles. My hunting spots are both extremes without much choice for in between.
Best of luck this fall. Thanks

A comment titled: moon in response to a report titled: FULL MOON

Been my experience deer will feed longer/more at night during full/mostly full moon periods unless there is heavy cloud cover. Usually means seeing few deer moving in the AM except right at first light but movement usually picks up during late AM through mid-day. PM sightings are usually just before dark. My reasoning is the brighter nighttime and longer feeding tends to generally shift movement periods foward 2-3 hours. May be a great time to try out a mid-day hunt. Still able to catch a buck every now and then running late sneaking back toward a bedding area at first light after full moon periods.

A comment titled: SoHo in response to a report titled: South Holston Trout

Caught a few on the #22 stripper midges and the like. Blue wing olives came off pretty good both Friday and Saturday eve with the biggest flurry on Saturday morn. Caught a good number of fish on #20s. Sulphurs just starting to show up but fish didn't take much notice of patterns. #16 tan caddis in fair numbers, assorted crane flies and what appeared to be some #16 hendricksons, not really sure but they looked wine to brown cast colored. Thanks for the report.

Nice video. Headed up to the SoHo in the morning. Will be trying to catch the sulphur hatch down low. Did you fellas see any on your trip? Should be starting up soon. All the reports I've heard says the fish are still on the midges. Either way I've got a box full of stripper midges and variations I tie, some similar to your fly shown. We fish those same areas shown in your video too. Fantastic place and a real blessing to be able to fish.

Rob Rogers? The one and the same old eagle eye fly fisherman I once knew? Looks like it to me. Long, long time friend. Those kids sure look like a fine pair. We're still here in Simpsonville. Would love to hear from you again. Attempted to look you up several times over the years to no avail. Hope all is well with you and yours.
    Take care friend,
    Theron Hattaway

If not the Rob I know then please disregard the post.
