  • I have caught 14 beavers, 4 gray fox, 1 red fox, 10 possum, 2 raccoon, 1 coyote and, 2 otters so far. We have had a lot of rain and have had to pull traps due to flooding.

We had to walk about ½ mile to stand thru a cut corn field. She said daddy that’s a long way but she made it any way. She sounded like a one legged rhino when she was walking. After about an hour of talking and beating the inside of the stand half to death a doe came out. I asked her if she wanted me to shoot it she said yes. So I did. 10 minutes later another one came out asked her if she wanted me to shoot it/ once again she said yes. 15 minutes later one came out at 300 yards asked again if she wanted me to shoot/ and guess what she said yes. So I took the first shoot and the deer ran. I said I missed that one asked if she wanted me to try again she said yes. The deer was at 375 when I shoot she was bowed up like a cat which I thought was funny I pulled the trigger and it dropped. I told her we had to quit I was out of tags. The one I thought I missed I actually had hit and blew his chest out that’s why it was bowed up like a cat. When she went to look for the deer with me she was excited and running all over the field. I asked her if she had fun and she said yes. I asked if she would go back hunting with me and she said next Saturday. After we picked up the deer we were riding back to the truck and I said your daddy’s a pretty good shot isn’t he? She said yes but not on the last one. My daddy thou8gt that was funny. I did explain that every hunt does not end that way that sometimes you don’t even get to see a deer. She was just lucky to have that good of an experience the first time. I also shot a tall 8 that morning. Just for the record I had bought extra doe tags and called the NCWRC and asked if there was a Daly bag limit before I shot that many. I just sent daddy to get me some more doe tags too. I know thi9s seems excessive but at our farm we see 15 to 20 deer on average every time we go and all are does and a few small bucks. Just trying to get the population of does down. Have seen as many as 48 deer in one afternoon and all does we have way to many.

I normally don’t say much about products that I use but I shoot a Mathews Z7 70 pound draw with spot hog hunter sights QAD rest. I have always shot muzzy 125 grain broad heads until this year. I have shot 8 deer with them and lost only 1 of them. They have broken bone and keep going. They were truly bad to the bone. I can’t say anything but good about muzzy. I changed my arrows to carbon express maximum hunters and I did not have time to tune my bow with them. So I went and bought the 2 blade rage chisel tip and they shot just like my field points so that was a plus. So Saturday I went hunting and this doe stepped out at 42 yards. I had a perfect broad side shot. There was a smaller deer in front of her and I had to shoot over her. I hit her a little further back than I was aiming about 3 inches to tell you the truth. When I released the arrow she was looking away and never knew the arrow was coming. I watched the arrow disappear in her side and then she run off. I let her lay for nearly 2 hour before looking for her. She went about 35 or 40 yards at the most. When I looked at the shot I realized I hit her a little back then I flipped her over and saw the exit hole and was amazed at the damage that rage did. I could not believe she went down as fast as she did with the shot I made on her. I will continue to shoot a rage broad head and don’t plan on switching back to muzzy. Rage is truly a awesome broad head. The Rage Company is truly advertising actual results not myths. I can say I may lose a deer shot with a rage but it will take a really bad shot to do so.

This has been the worst duck season I have ever seen. Is anyone else having the problem of not seeing ducks this year?

I completely agree with decannon first deer quarting to you at best second as shaky as you where im sure you punched the trigger witch throws you off. Another thing is that 100+/- yard shot that was not a very ethical thing to do or promote. If I read it wright you recovered that deer the next day??? At that point I would not have even thought of thinking about eating it and if you say you would take a pork chop out your fridge tonight let it get to room temperature then wrap it in a paper towel and throw it in the edge of the woods and in morning at about 11 or so cook it and eat it. I do shoot a bow a lot and shoot in archery competitions and the setup I have allows me to shoot out to 100 yards and I would have never tried it on a deer. And also why do you have 3 deferent types of arrows in your quiver they should all be different grains per inch witch will shoot different out at distance.I had a deer duck an arrow at 21 yards. Theere are just tomany things that could go wrong.

First of all this deer is at a deer farm and they feed it the perfect food for antler growth. I have watched videos of some of the deer and the horns where so big the deer could not even hold their head up which I think is unfair to the animal they have no quality of life. Then at 31/2 years they turn them out for 50,000+ can hunts. There is a pen in latta that sales hunts???? You can sit on the side of the road and watch the deer just walk around the pen/fence/hunting property there is a stand in the bill board by the road. To each their own but if I never shoot a deer over 140 inches I’ll be a lot happier than if I paid 20,000 to go shoot a 200 inch deer. These pen deer could not make it in the wild!!!

A comment titled: can spend alot in response to a report titled: Questions about my bow

I agree with goblin tom. Archery hunting is high if you want to spend the money on it which I did. I shot a whisker biscuit on my last 2 bows and now shoot a QAD drop away. As far as releases go I have shot a Carters chocolate addiction $190 (small fortune) T handle release But I do not hunt with it because I may drop it out of the tree I now shoot a tru ball beast ( about $100 after tax) only bad thing about it has the bone collector logo on it. (Bone collector is one of my favorite shows but I don’t want everything to have to have their logo on it) I do believe you should spend some money in a good release because you want to be able to set it like a rifle trigger. I used to shoot red head carbon fury arrows I have now switched to carbon express maximum hunters the only problem is with lighted knocks and rage broad heads you are looking at $38 bucks each. I shoot a Mathews with Mathews quiver and fuse stabilizer along with all that other stuff on it. Yes goblin tom I DID have a fat wallet and now I have an anorexic wallet.

Guess what he is dead!!!!!!! Deer do not have name tags so what’s it matter. If your neighbors kills a deer than its dead and will be dead the rest of his life!!! If the deer was in the city limits at one time that’s fine but he has 4 legs it’s the rut and they travel some times a long ways for the girls too. I know when I was in rut after my wife I would travel 60 miles one way to see her and I couldn’t even smell her till I got close to her.

I highly recommend A lighted nock I shoot a nockternal for my Mathews and my dad bought a 3 pack of luminock arrows with the lighted nock for his crossbow. My carbon express arrows with a rage broad head and nockternal nocks cost me $39.00 each. The nocturnal are about $8.50 of that cost but that $8.50 helps me find the other $30.00 if you know what I mean. Also if the deer leaves with my arrow I can sometimes find out which way to go because they normally break off or come out as they run.

I would really be worried if I could not find my arrow. On the bright side I skinned a deer last year with a broad head stuck in him and a buddy did the same thing last year almost cut his finger while skinning it. Hopefully he will be on the camera.

In NC you can shoot as many deer as you want. But only 4 bucks witch I think bucks should be less. It6 cost 10 dollars to buy 2 extra do tags at a time. Going to get me some this week. I use them trying to get the doe numbers down. I may shot 2 bucks a year at the most. I wish we would only get 2 buck tags a year.

I like the G5 montec for the most part think they have a good design. But they do not have replacement blades.I also always check that the rage is lo9cked in the O ring when i nock my arrows. I was warned that they may come open in the quiver.

A comment titled: Im sticking with Rage. in response to a report titled: WOW!!!! Rage 2 blade chisel point

I was shooting the practice chisel tip heads and the chisel point is so sharp that I ended up cutting the fletching off of my arrow. I would have never imagined that that would happen. I went with the chisel point because I thought it would perform better on bone than the ones with the blade on the point. That’s what I liked about the muzzy was that it will brake bone. Had a friend shoot a hog the other night with a rage out of a ground blind had a complete pass through on 2 with 1 shot and then the arrow was lodged in a tree. They did that with a 60 pound Matthews heli M. Had another friend shoot a 60 pound boar with a 70 pound Matthews heli M compete pass through dropped hog in his tracks hog was laying there kicking and he put another 1 in it and it broke the leg passed to the hart. It broke a blade off but they make replacement blades for them. When I shot muzzy I had to replace blades all the time.

I did the same thing about 2 years ago by accident. I was shocked the first was a boar standing at 30 wards and the other was a sow just behind him. Arrow passed through both. He ran off about forty yards and I was watching him and saw her fall out of the corner of my eye. I had no idea what happened until I walked up to her and found the arrow laying under her. I would have never thought an arrow would make a clean pass through a boar and a sow.

A comment titled: Dont get me started!! in response to a report titled: dog season

I really dislike dog hunting myself and I killed my first deer in front of dogs and many after. Hats until I started still hunting. I don’t.t get to hunt like I did before my little girl came along and my wife went back to get her master’s degree and I hate it when dogs mess my hunt up. I wish it was not allowed. I have eaten deer that have run by dogs and they do not taste the same and 15 min after you shoot them they are stiff as a board. When I still hunt after the bow season I don’t bait much after accept 2 stands at the house. Monday I had deer dogs running all around me and I was ticked off to say the least. If you like to shoot at something that is “straight up haulin ass” than that’s fine try duck hunting. When you are running dogs you can’t judge deer’s age size if does and yearlings. More deer are wounded and suffer because the deer are “straight up haulin ass” and you can’t make ethical decisions. A dogs hunter gets tunnel vision and is not paying attention to what is behind the deer and I know for a fact truck, houses, and people have close calls> I know this for sure. I have a friend his neighbor’s house was shot. My wife’s dad shot some ones truck and I have had shoot come within 10 feet of me. When you turn dogs lose you are affecting other hunters around you and yall don’t care. I know this because when I tell people your dogs where running on my land/hunting lease there response is always the same “Dogs can’t read no trespassing sings” sorry to say this but if you as a dog hunter ever say this you are just as stupid as that dog you are running.

A comment titled: Hope this is some help. No bait!!!!!!!! in response to a report titled: clarification

This came out of the regulations book. As far I can see you can turn dogs loose on a corn pile but you can’t hunt a stand with corn in front of it. Be careful you can call NCWRC at 1-800-662-7137 and get clarification.

Take a bear with the use or aid of bait, which includes any salt,
Salt lick, grain, fruit, honey, sugar-based material or substance,
    Animal parts or animal products.
Place processed food products as bait in any area of the state with
an open season for taking black bears. Processed food products
are any food substance or flavoring that has been modified by
the addition of ingredients or by treatment to modify its chemical com position or form or to enhance its aroma or taste. This
includes: food products enhanced by sugar, honey, syrups, oils,
salts, spices, peanut butter, grease, meat, bones, or blood; candies,
pastries, gum, and sugar blocks; and extracts of such products.
The prohibition against taking bears with the use and aid of bait
does not apply to the release of dogs in the vicinity of any food
source that is not a processed food product. However, dogs may
not be released in the vicinity of any commercially available
