Biggest deer I have ever gotten. Killed him Monday evening. Did not find him until Tuesday. Shot him at 320 yards with 308. The picture of him standing was taken 2 hours before I got him. The camera belonged to another hunter and is about 600 yards from where I shot him.
I have put out my cameras and some corn. Was wondering if anyone else has already started. I checked camera this morning and had 1062 pictures in 2 weeks. Getting some nice pictures of some bucks. Also have a couple of doe that have not had fawns yet. Was just curious.
Was just wondering about other hunters view on this topic. This has been a tough year. While I was able to take 4 deer, seeing them is tough. 95 percent of the pictures that I had was at night. Not sure what the deal was. Just wondering how it went for other hunters.
Hey guys and gals. I am going to attempt to turkey hunt this year. I have never done so before. Would like some input on how to get started. What is the best shot to use. Also, ideas about calls. Thanks for any information.
Had a great first day. Did not get to take a shot. The closest the deer got was 70 yards. But I did have 6 in the field at one time. 5 were does and 1 nice buck. Will be back in the morning to see how it pans out. How did everyone else do?
Had been trying to get permission to hunt a rather large farm. Know that there are plenty of deer on this farm. Have not seen anyone hunting it for years. Finally talked to the person that has it leased yesterday. He told me that he is only going to hunt 2 or 3 times the whole season. He is only hunting for trophies. I have permission to pick up corn that was left anyway. Yesterday as I was getting ready to leave I checked the back field. There was 22 deer standing in this field. Did not see any horns at all. Do not understand why people want to be this way.
Have not been bowing hunting very long. My bow was given to me. The only change has been my sight and arrow rest. Was reading the other day about bow hunting. The author said that the small stablizers were more just for looks. You should use one of the bigger ones. The one on my bow is 3.5 ounces. I was thinging about going to one that is 6 or 7 ounces. Was wondering what some of you that have been shooting for a while thought.
I have read that when does are ready for breeding that they will not have any little ones hanging with them. This morning I had 4 walk out on me. One was a large doe. 1 was little smaller, but the last 2 were really small. Just wondering if this was normal.
This afternoon I was hunting with my son. We have been hunting together for about 3 years. He has never killed a deer. It always happens that I got the shot. We went today because yesterday was his birthday. I really wanted him to kill one. We went to a field that I have seen deer in but never hunted. We got set up and everything was going ok. The homeowner showed up and walked out to us and talked with us for several minutes. He was telling us about the deer coming up in the yard. He walked back in the house and we got back set up. It has not even been 10 minutes when a what I thought was a nice doe walked out. My son got ready and with 1 shot dropped the deer in its tracks. We were tickled to death. We were high fiving walking across the field to the deer. To our surprise the deer was a buck. Both of his horns were broke off at the skull. Also noticed that where they broke from was not very big. Has anyone else noticed anything like this. Also love reading the post here. Have really learned from some.
Needs some info from the very experienced hunters out here. Friday while walking a path thru the woods, I found 2 scrapes. They were not real big but very fresh and cleaned out. After hunting this morning I walked back down the path. There is now 4 scrapes. All of them are within an area about 100 yards long. They are also in the path, but on the edge. Any suggestions about how to hunt these would be great.
I have been hunting now for 2 years, this will be my third. Have killed many does and a few bucks. Had something happen yesterday I was wondering about. Hope someone can give me some info. While in my ladderstand I heard what sounded like a person walking thru the woods. It did not walk in a hurry and would stop every few steps. Whatever it was got within about 30 yards, but I could not see it for all the trees. Thinking that it may be a big buck, I did not move, hardly even breathed. I had used cover scent before going in. Suddenly whatever it was took off running thru the woods. It sounded like a horse running thru there. Was this more than likely a buck, a doe or something else.
