  • Great weekend spending time with my 10 y/o daughter Miranda at our Hertford County hunting club. To top the weekend off, she killed her first deer Saturday afternoon at 4:45. A 4-point buck at 125 yards with a Browning BAR .243 shooting Black Hills Gold 95-Grain Hornady SST ammo. She made the perfect behind the shoulder through the heart shot even though the gun is longer than she is tall. Caught the scope with her nose during recoil and even though the impact brought tears to her eyes, the smile was priceless. Four kids under the age of 10 harvested deer this weekend at our club. That is what hunting is all about!

Matthew Pope, 15 y/o from Nashville, NC, killed his first buck on Saturday 11/7/09 around 10:30 am in Hertford County. This bruiser 8-pointer weighed 190 pounds and green scored 145 3/4. He measured 19 1/4' inside and was killed with a 12 gauge Remington 870 Express Magnum loaded with OO Winchester 3' buckshot while sitting in a Summitt Viper SS climbing treestand. Matthew was dog hunting as a member of the Potecasi Creek Hunt Club.

A comment titled: Great Deer in response to a report titled: Seths big 8 pointer

Good Job Seth!!! It's great to see so many young hunters doing well this year. I myself have experienced hearing the shot and receiving that anticipated cell phone call from both of my sons several times over the past few years. What a feeling for a father and what a great post.
