We got out the truck this morning about 6:00 and headed out to find us a Gobbler. We walked all the way around a freshly planted corn field and the woods were silent so I blew in the old hoot tube a couple times and we heard him,so we headed on to the corner of the field right next to an old logging road and set out our decoys. My buddy Deerslayer called a few times and we could tell he was moving our way.We didnt get any more answers so we double teamed him,Deerslayer Yelped and I gobbled shortly after we heard him walking in the woods right beside us.My Son wispered to me that he could see him so I told him to get ready. The big boy came out the woods wide open going strait for the decoy. We saw the monster beard waving so I give my boy the ok to shoot when he was ready and not long after old Tom struted around the decoy he was laying next to it!!!!Perfect shot on his first bird and we ran in the field yelling....he shot an awesome bird with an 11' beard,1 1/8'spurs and weighed 20.8 lbs.
Opening day was a success!!!Killed my first Turkey!!!Me and a buddy(DEERSLAYER)headed out early this morning after a Gobbler Deerslayer spotted the night b4.Mother Nature took care of the locating...all we had to do was listen while the owls and crows called for us and the gobbles followed. We found our spot put out our decoys and started working!!!Deerslayer started calling and old tom started answering...and this only went on for about 2 1/2 hours. He didnt want to come out and show his face so we double teamed him,Deerslayed yelps and i answered with a gobble to make him think he had some compition. After about three time he desided he better get out there....so the long fight payed off and we took our first turkey. My trusty ole Mossberg took him down and we started celebrating. We landed about a two yr old tom with a 9in. beard and 7/8in. spurs....and WOW I aint quit grinning yet!!!
