Merry Christmas to everyone! I hope you all are able to enjoy this day with friends and family. I finally have some time to be able to get on this board more, and I look forward to making some new friends and getting to know some of you better. This has been an awesome hunting season so far, cant imagine living in a better state to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle. Let us not forget the real reason for the day and take a moment to thank the lord for his many blessings! Have a great day my fellow sportsman!
This is by far my best buck to date, and the first deer.. I have taken off my property. I was sitting in a box stand that borders the edge of a sanctuary that I created for the deer. I was checking the weather on my iphone .and pondering calling it a day when I looked up and saw a black shape moving through the clear cut , I realized it was a deer and looked through the binoculars and saw it was a buck, I shouldered my rifle, looked through the scope and saw NOTHING the scoped was fogged over! I lifted my head to see the buck moving closer to the edge of the clear cut to the thick stuff, I again brought the scope to my eye for a second time and nothing! I raised up again to see the buck on the edge.. Looking through the scope again by the grace of God I found the deer, he had stopped to nibble a branch, I saw the outline of the deer through the haze and knew I could see enough to make a ethical shot, I pulled the trigger and he vanished into the thick stuff. I heard him run a short distance and crash, after calling my dad we gave him a few and then started the search.. The sanctuary is thick and tracking was tuff.. logs and trash from when it was cut over and head high brush made hit hard, and our lights were dying! I said a pray asking the lord to help me locate the deer, and in a few mins dad yelled he had found him. With the spotlight dying he had made one last past and saw the bucks nose flash in the light.. he was hidden in thick brush and vines. After falling a couple times I finally made it to the deer, We pulled him out and finally got to give him a looking over! He is a maine frame Nine with a third beam coming out.. that has a small point that would of been a nice drop. He was thin and stinking and rutted up. I have been deer hunting for over 12 years and the biggest I have taken is a small six, Ive pasted on a lot of small bucks.. I always held out hope, Owning my own place has been a dream of mine and it finally worked out . and to take my first big deer off my own place is more than words can describe. I thank God and I thank my family for putting up with my obsession. PS. When we skinned him out.. we found a buckshot pellet under the skin..
No deer to post, but did want to wish everyone a Happy Halloween and share my pumpkin.. carved yesterday. Good Luck to everyone and have a safe Holiday!
Posted Pics of these Bucks back in June and Wanted to Share an update
The seven with the tall rack is nicknamed 'Gun Slinger' because we thought he was going to be a big 6 ( and I am a big fan of westerns) .
the Big Eight Point right now does not have a name, I have been Deer hunting for over ten years and other than a small six point , I only have two spikes and a lot of does. this eight is the deer of my dreams, Right now.. I cant pick one name that sums him up!
Also they are running with a small 3 point that a female friend of mine has nicked named 'Gator' I have tons of pics of this buck.. and have been given strict orders that no matter what size buck he ends up growing he's off the hit list cant win em all...
Anyway Good Luck to everyone as the season gets closer.. Hunt Hard and Be Safe!
After Years of hunting other peoples land, finally took a leap of faith and bought some land of mine own, I knew it would be a gamble and I hope that my investment would pay off, after seeing plenty of sign and lots of tracks got these guys showing up on camera, I think I made the right choice! Looking forward to hanging stands and get ready for this years hunting season! Hope everyone else is getting good cam pics!
First off lets state the fact, I am a dog person, cats are cool, but dogs.. Are just well dogs.. I have owned dogs from as far back as I can remember, and now I have two Yellow Labs one older dog and a 13 month old puppy Gauge. There is a lot of debate going on here about dog hunting and what is going to be done about it. I think something has to happen, we have to learn to work together to obtain a common goal. Its not about hunting or whos a dog hunter or whos a still hunter, whats the important issue is what is good for the wild life of North Carolina. We are blessed to live in a state that is not CDW yet, how many of you went out this season and thanked GOD (if you believe in GOD) that NC still does not have CWD we have for the most part a healthy deer population and a growing black bear population, I have heard people whine about oh the bears eat my corn, give me a break.. You have BEARS sitting in a tree stand with the chance of seeing a bear is just cool, if you dont think so something is honestly wrong with you. Hunting is becoming more and more.. Gosh I dont know, but its losing something.. so many people are hung up on a freaking record book.. you read a post and the first thing some people say is oh what he scored... WHO CARES...? , have I taken big deer?.. Heck no... I have two cow horns and a small 6 point. And lord knows how many does, and I love antlers.. and I want a big buck , but I could careless about a record book deer, I just love antlers, and BLAH on antler soup! You hunt for a trophy, weather its antlers or a photography or a memory its all a trophy, hunting is something that has always been sacred to me, a tradition that I hope to pass down to my kids one day, Its never been about the killing, oh yes I am a predator, and I make no apologizes for killing a deer, but if spilling blood is all I wanted to do, I could raise chickens and make sure McDonalds has a couple more chicken nuggets to cram into some screaming brats face so his mom can get 5 mins of peace. Dog hunters and Still hunters lets work something out, Dog hunters have pissed me off many times, do I agree with letting the dog do all the work and not getting out there doing it yourself and scouting and all that comes with still hunting, no I dont, but I am sure there are people that Dog hunting is as important to them as my still hunting is to me. A Civilization can not be conquered from the outside unless its first destroyed its self from the inside. I dont have the answer, but I hope someone else can come up with something. Trust me we will all miss it when we can no longer hunt, some people say that wont happen, but how many of u thought 9-11 -01 could happen, never put anything past the government, Our days in the field could become nothing more than stories that some of us will be telling our grandkids about, instead of being able to show them. October 27th marked the 150th birthday for Teddy Roosevelt if you hunt and fish then you should thank him, he was the only true friend to sportsmen thats ever held the office of president, and his tales of hunting and conservation make for good reading. Lets Work Together! P. S. my spelling and grammar suck.. I am just an ole country boy after all
