  • This was daddy’s first turkey. He had a 9 ½ inch beard and 7/8 inch spurs. We sat up and started calling and he gobbled at the first call. After about 10 minutes he came out in the field and all we could see was his head. He strutted for about 30 min gobbling constantly. We couldn’t get him to come at first because he couldn’t see the decoys once he saw them that’s all it took. He started across the field he would walk about 10 yards at a time stop strut and gobble 2 or 3 times and then walk about 10 yards and do it all again. When he saw the jake decoy he stopped all the showing off and went into fight mode. Thank god that daddy made a good shot if he would have missed I would be buying a new decoy now the saved the jake. This turkey gobbled more then I would have ever thought he had to of gobbled at least 100 times in the hour we where there. Daddy shot this bird at 21 steps he was pretty close. Had lots of fun that day and made a lot of memories wit him.

Finally got it. Been chasing this critter for 2 years now there where 3 black ones now there are 2. I have seen 2 with a normal color coyote last year and couldn’t get a shot but did shoot the normal color one. My dad chased 2 black ones with the four-wheeler last year. A buddy that hunts the farm has seen the 3 black ones this year at the same time. This is the only one I saw yesterday. He came out at dark and trotted within 75 to 100 yards by 5 does eating in the field and they just watched him. He wouldn’t stop running but when he did you see what happened. Always hunt no matter how you seasons going you never know what you will see. Black coyotes are rare. If any one wants him to mount let me know I will keep him in the freezer for a week then he is going to be fed to the buzzards. nc.deerhunter@yahoo.com

Killed in the swamp. Me and a frind had to quit shooting after about 10 min. Had our limit.

Don’t know what happened to this deer other than I shot him. He walked out like he was fine. I have pics of him all year and he was fine last pic was Nov. 4 and I shot him on Nov. 13. The hole in the deer’s side was huge and full of maggots. It stunk like it was road kill a week old.

Hey had a guy come shoot 1 and then I went next day and shot 2 I had 12 coming to my feeder and my dad shot one with his bow last Saturday and a guy came and shot one this weekend. After he shot his with the rifle they went straight to the other feeder and ate all night so I went in there and shoot one sat there about 30 min heard them coming back and shot another. Sat there till 8 and didn't see any thing else but deer. They are aggravating but loads of fun. Now I think by the pics imp down to 8 but there will be more. They come and go as they want. Normally if you shoot a few around my house they will leave for a while.

    Sticking with the theme
I shot it yesterday in Duplin County it was an amazing day couldn’t believe how strong of a cold front that came though it was cold. There were 17 other bucks with him eating the beans in the field but he was the smallest and the shortest shoot he was only about ¾ of a mile and I let that .17HMR reach out and touch him plus I didn’t feel like dragging a big one out I was 83 miles from the truck at the time. The most amazing thing about the whole trip was that after I shoot him a mountain lion tried to take it from me I had to take the tooth pick out of my mouth and stabbed him in the eye with I then wiggled it around until I hit his brain killed him on the spot. Which was a good thing because then the wolf showed up but before I could do any thing some one else shoot him and I’m glad cause I was out of tooth picks and I didn’t want to kill him with my shoe string but I would have if I needed to

We shoot lots of hogs around easdtern n.c. The hogs are here to stay we just have to learn to enjoy them and try to controle them we will not be able to get rid of them. I took peaple 4 times and killed 3 hogs over 200 pounds and missed a huge hog.

A game warden was driving down the road when he came
upon a young boy carrying a live wild turkey under his arm.
He stopped and asked the boy, 'Where did you get that turkey?'
    The boy replied, 'What turkey?'
The game warden said, 'That turkey you're carrying
    under your arm.'
The boy looks down and said, 'Well, lookee here, a
turkey done roosted under my arm!'
The game warden said, 'Now look, you know turkey season
is closed, so whatever you do to that turkey, I'm going to do to you.
If you break his leg, I'm gonna break your leg. If you
break his wing, I'll break your arm. Whatever you do to
him, I'll do to you. So, what are you gonna do with
    him?'
The little boy said, 'I guess I'll just kiss his
    ass and let him go!'

A lot of you guys have good points about the dog hunting and I don’t have any problems with it when it’s done correctly. So let’s try this send me some things that you think should change, such as one I think would work is no dog hunting unless you have say 2000 consecutive acres. Or like ncsu deerhunter said once only allow a cretin number of dogs out per acre at a time depending on how much land you control. I understand that yall don’t want to see dog hunting gone and every one dose need to reach an agreement so let’s work together and try to figure something out. I will have the same plans as I did before. Everyone E-mail me at nc.deerhunter@yahoo.com if you don’t want someone to see your post, or post it here I want to hear what everyone has to say. I will make sure this gets to N.C wildlife and I will do everything possible to make it to some of the public hearings. I don’t want it to end I want it to change for the hunters that respect each other’s rights. And yes I want the outlaws pushed out and gone. That includes night hunter, trespassers, still hunters pouching, dog killers, and the outlaw dog hunters which in my opinion should not be called a sportsman or hunter.

    PS. Sorry about your dog.

    November 13, 2008 at 12:03pm

Hey everyone I am tired of my hunts getting ruined by the dog hunters and I want to get it stopped. I will need some help from the others that fell the same way I do. On opening day I went and hunted a stand near my house as soon as I got out not 30 minutes latter the dog hunters turned there dogs lost on my hunting lease. The comment was made to me that they wanted until I got out of the stand before they tuned the dogs lose. This land is posted NO HUNTING and NO TRESPASSING signs all the way around it. On Monday they decided to have a morning hunt once again on my hunting lease. These guys know I’m not home so I cant say anything this time because I was at work. So they lined up both roads and turn lose again. This time I had a neighbor call and tell me what was going on so I called N.C. wild life. I haven’t had another incident yet but we are only in the second week of the season. This is only one of many incidents over the years. If you want to here more I’ll be happy to share

this pictuer looks like it was scaned in on a computer from somewhere else. As for monsterquest i have wached all of them and have seen the one on big cats also on the beast of bladenboro, bigfoot, giant fling monsters, monsters on the water and bigfoot of course guess what they have not proved any thing in any show they have had out. I have taken more than 100,000 trail cam pictuers in robeson bladen columbus counties and have never seen a pictuer of one yet. we use 9 to 10 camras at a time at differant locations.I spend lots of time in the woods and have never seen one eather I don't belive there are any around and i know 3 peaple that work with usda and none of them have seen one and countless ncwl officers have said no also.

A comment titled: yep in response to a report titled: Coyote or random dog?

yes that is a cyote and they are in all 100 counties on nc and have been for many years you just haven’t seen them. But they are there. If you have 1 it had to come from somewhere so that means there is a male and female and he has brothers and sisters and the parents of it are somewhere too. You can’t get rid of then but you can control them. They are seasonal you should use a fawn in distress call when fawns are dropping and a cotton tail call works any time. In nc coyotes normally stay in the edge of the woods which makes it hard for you to kill because they see you before you see them. They are fun to hunt but hard to hunt. They don’t stand still very long so getting a shot can be tough. I have killed them over 50 pounds and have killed black ones too. Just don’t think that’s the only one because its not.

I haven’t seen a big buck in years. I have had pics of monsters but never seen them myself and they get shot by the neighbors and I don’t want to quit. You never know what’s going to show up that’s why I stay. Yes I do get frustrated but I never want to call it quits. I still believe that wanting to quit for the year because someone else shot the big one is wrong. You should be happy that someone got him and was happy about it. I am the type person that if you hunt my stand I am hoping you will kill a deer of a life time. I couldn’t care who shot him. I sat in the stand with my dad the first time he shot a buck and after he shot that buck which was a 3 point I shot the biggest deer of my life which was a 15 inch 9 point and I was happier about the little 3 point. I was just happy I was there with him and now have those memories. I will say if you are hunting for one reason (big deer that is dead now) you need to go home!!! You are out there for the wrong reason.

    December 15, 2009 at 6:57am
A comment titled: Mabe you should in response to a report titled: ready to give up

If quitting is that easy than do it. Sounds like you are out there for the wrong reasons. I go hunting 2 to 3 times a week and I know I’m not going to shoot I sit in the same stand every time and just enjoy being there and knowing my dad is in a stand across the farm. One day I will not be able to be there with him and than I still will not quit. There is so much more to hunting than killing a big deer. Go watch the squirrels take a hand held video game or better yet take the bible and enjoy it. Look around and realize hunting is not about you. Be happy you can still go. There are a lot of people with health issues that wish they could go and some that have died and can never go again. Love the woods not the deer.

he shot the deer illegally after dark in a completely different location and tried to pass it off as killing it in a different location the next morning. I, as the rest of u were, was dooped by this person himself and have defended him taking this deer until i found out today. He deserves no respect as a hunter and i hope he gets whats comin to him....... makes me sick!

Hey I have had some people steal trail cameras, trespassing, sit in the stands, turn there dogs lose piss in my corn; throw cologne on my corn and other things. I will be the first to say I hate the dog hunters around my house and I know heavy Chevy is a dog hunter But I would love to have him and his club around the house they seem like a good honest group. I made a commit at the NCWL meeting last year that was apparently well taken by most I said that if people called there selves sportsmen what happened to the respect of the neighbors, land owners, and the animals. All I know is I try to lead by example and hope that works. I have never got revenge. I feel they have to live with what they do and I have to live with what I do. It dose not matter who sees you do it or who don’t the one that matters sees all and knows all so keep it honest.

There are acorns every where!!!!!! Huge crop about a month ago the big ones feel but I think the wind we had last week blew the little ones out. Now the deer are eating them. My stands are near lots of oaks and they have not showed up at the corn until late Friday night that’s by the camera pics not what I have seen. Few deer on camera last week. But they showed up on camera Friday and sat. Only saw 2 sat evening. They should show back up soon and I will be there. Good luck to every one and stick with it. I sure haven’t had any luck this year the only one I have shot was that small 8 and had to throw it away cause of injury but its not over yet.

It has been crazy this year. I have seen deer when I didn't think I would and then I would see deer when I didn't think I would. They where eating 3 to 4 bags of cob corn at 2 of my stands a week and now I put 4 bags in them 2 weeks ago and there is still corn. I have not seen the numbers that I did last year and I am hunting over a 250 acre bean field and didn't see anything Tuesday. Didn’t see any thing yesterday or Monday. I haven’t seen a deer this week. I'm wandering if the crazy weather has some thing to do with it. The cold spell we had earlier in the year had the deer on the move but they have not moved good since then. We are half way through Nov. And only had one light frost I think that’s what it is but not sure. Heck I haven’t seen the deer dead on the hwy. like I have in the past. I haven’t seen a single buck chasseing a doe or with a doe yet this year. I have seen only 1 deer making a scrape but I walked to my stand in the bean field Tuesday and walked past 21 scrapes some were old but most had been worked in the last day. If you figure it out let me know whets going on.

I live in Columbus County at the southern tip. All the clubs around us are a bunch of fools. It's hard to find any where that’s got a good club any more. At this time I hunt on a 475 acre farm in Robeson county and they are good people that hunt with us such as my dad, best friend and some and some other friends but we have a crowed that comes down once in a while which is some of the land owners family and all they do is cuss and sit in other peoples stands. They have put up 2 stands and that’s all and they bring 5 or 6 at a time and very seldom bait any stands. They bring 1 or 2 bags of corn it gets put in some of the stupidest places. They kill deer and drag them in to the woods to rot. they killed 3 opening week and we watched them skin 1 and the other 2 where dropped off at the skinning rack and left there while they went to the ABC store. we also found 2 dead deer during bow season that where left in the feild to rot and one was shot with a rifel couldn't tell about the other one. I don't mind if any one sits in my stands as long as they have the common decency to at least ask. Thank god they only come about 3 or 4 times a year. So I’m like you i am going to keep hunting there but I’m looking for some land to lease too.
