I just heard the results of the new changes to the 2009-2010 deer season. To sum it up the central and western piedmont seasons remain the same with the exception of the last week of archery being added as a muzzle loader season...so there will be two weeks total. Crossbows will be legal as well during archery season. I did not hear of any changes to the spring wild turkey seasons. Check out the Raliegh news paper website

So today I found out that a neighboring land owner who has a 50 acre tract gave permission to a large hunt club to dog hunt his land. We have a 100 acre tract adjacent to his property which has lots of bedding cover on it. There is not a tract of land larger than ours in the area, and in addition the property the club has permission to run just got clear cut this past month. How is this legal? There is no way that they can hunt and control there dogs on the small tract they have the ok to hunt, and its clear cut!!!! Somethings got to give with this mess. I know they are going to run our land cause its the only cover around...does anyone have any advise on how to control this or motion a change in the law to get rid of this ridiculous excuse to hunt someone elses land...

I shot this one last November, never took it to the deer classic maybe should have. Its official score was 162 5/8 typical B&C. I just thought I would show you that if you are patient and let the small ones go that the giant are out there...not bad for an eight pointer. And yes it was 100% fair chace..killed at 9:30 in the morning.

The NC Wildlife Comission is considering a proposal that would eliminate archery and muzzleloading seasons on private lands. On private lands, owners, and or leases will be allowed to use and weapon including rifles the entire season. The purpose they say is to produce a huge increase in deer harvest immediatley. Sound like insurace companies are lobbying because there claims are up and they arent making enough money. I encourage all of you to contact your wildlife commissioners and let them know this is a horrible idea. There is a meeting August 26 &27 to discuss this issue. Lets stop this bill in its tracks!!

I am not against opening gun season a little earlier, but the dog hunting should be pushed back or kept where it is...after the rut. The worst proposal in my opinion is H6, opeing the maximum either sex season in the central and western piedmont. It states that the reason is to allow for maximum doe harvest opportunities. This makes no sense to me as you can already harvest as many does as you wish....this is the proposal i worry about the most as a trophey bow hunter.

Get you a chart and study the area, it will show wrecks, artificial reefs, the break, natural bottoms. Fish some of these areas and explore for new ones....hope this helps. Check out fryingpantower.com or ncwaterman....these are helpful websites for the offshore fishermen and women

I noticed this year that when you report your kill on-line it asks if you used the assistance of dogs. I bet you are on to something there. It will be interesting to see the results. I hope regardless of our feelings we all have a happy and healthy new year and a great 2009 season.

    Chasin Trophies,
How would you feel if someone came and enjoyed hearing the 'crunching of leaves' on your property....isnt that the same thing??

I can understand doggin a thicket or cutover on large tracks of land down east, but it is ridiculous to turn loose on 40 acres of land and expect to keep your hounds on that 40 acres. I just dont think there is a place for dog hunters in the area i hunt. It would be like me taking my house dog over to their house and letting it bark and make all kinds of noise in the middle of the night and say 'well my dog doesnt know any better' come on....

Our land is registered with WRC, we called the wildlife hotline and a warden was supposed to contact us but never called. By the time we called back and talked with someone they had already run all over our property. This has gone on for years and years. It sounds like a great system but unless you are there when they turn the dogs out, its hard to catch them. The dogs do not have collars, no ID on them, and the game warden says that unless we catch them in there and get names he can do nothing. We have given him names in the past and still nothing changes....it is so frusterating and unfair....its a shame that a land owner cant enjoy his own land at times....the only solution is to outlaw dog hunting for deer in the county, its just not a good idea in my county

Awsome buck, and WRC proposed to do away with the two buck rule....you didnt see deer like this, or many of the ones posted this year in past years. The quality of bucks NC has improved so much over the past few years, why change a good and obviously productive rule? Congrats on a great deer!

Cool, you are just down the road from us. I killed a doe the day after Thanksgiving and saw some small bucks, but did not see any chasing or anything like that. Congrats on a great deer

What part of Caswell do you hunt? We have a farm near Milton and took a good eight pointer off of it during Muzzle loader. We saw alot of rutting activity that week. Just curious.

A comment titled: rut in response to a report titled: Rut

I noticed you are listed in eastern NC. Most of the guys who are talking about seeing bucks chasing does are in the central and northwestern regions. The rut in the east usually occurs in mid to late October. October 18-24 was about when most of the chasing went on in the east at least where I was hunting in Brunswick County. This may be the reason you are seeing lots of does and few bucks. The eastern season should have a second rut in the comming weeks but there are also alot of does in the east. My recomendation is to harvest some does when you see them. Usually if a does has young ones,or is with multiple does there will usually not be a buck chasing her. If a lone doe comes in, wait and see what happens...hope this helps.
