  • Caught 16 blue cats, 2 channels and a bullhead plus some nice bass today. Truly a awesome day to spend with one of my boys.

Hey everyone the action is heating up on Gaston Lake. I have been catching some nice channels and some really good blues consistently up here. these fish are engulfing the clams and and crushing the shad. Hang a bream or big chunk of cut bait about 8 ft deep on the edge of the drop off and hold on.

Catfishing is picking up in the Roanoke. Find a deep gut flowing into the river and anchor down above it. The big ones are on the bottom right on the edge of the drop-off but plenty of 1-2 pounders can be caught on cork and bobber about 4 ft. deep. Good luck, take a kid fishing, I am

Catching a variety of fish on the Roanoke this year. Bass and 2 pound catfish in the mouth of guts and Rockfish and White Perch in the channel. (mostly right on the edge of the drop off.)

Saturday morning the deer were on the move. man what a great morning. shot the doe and 30 minutes later had this beautiful 10 pointer. the night before I grunted up a nice 8 pointer but did not shot it. I have grunted up more bucks in the last two weeks than I may have in my life. they are really rutting, grunt a little then a little rattling and sit back and enjoy the show. this is what you get if you get up and go. I almost slept in

had a great day fishing on lake gaston. Unuasual to catch such large catfish in the daylight. they were holding near docks probably in the shade. Ended up with 4 nice cats weighjing in at 37 pounds. I'll be enjoying the filets for a while. fish were in 15-20 foot of water off the docks. my boat 'VISITATION' strikes again.

when I was younger a old man told me that when you were going fishing to go see if the cows were walking around. He said that the fish would be moving around also. If they were all under a tree or in the shade but standing up then they would be holding together so to fish the holes. If they were lying down to stay home and mow the grass. Well I still say a day on the water is one better than one mowing grass, thats what the kids are for. The cows are walking today. let me know how you do.

    rain, rain, rain
so much said for that. I gave it a couple of hours on the roanoke river in scotland neck. caught 1 shad, 1 herring, and 3 rock fish with several more getting off beside the boat. the barbless hook rule works real well if you have the right hook. 3:20 pm till 5:30 pm sitting under the bridge. all fish were to small to keep but fun to catch just the same. rivers up and running a little faster so the big boys might show up. well hope that this will help, will post more as I go. P.S. the white perch were biting along the bank but fishing was tough for the bank fishermen.

went friday to the meherrin river in murfreesboro. the guys taking out told me not to waste my time. to those guys i say this. you should have stayed a little longer. i caught my limit of shad and 1 was a large white buck shad about 5 pounds, man he gave a fight on my ultralight. any way the white perch were giving a stong run and i expect it will only get better. the weather is strange this week and i'm sure the fish will be deep. most of my shad were caught about 3 feet off the bottom. jigging is real effective and i also caught a lot of herring but had to put them back. take care everyone and see you on the water. the picture is me with a nice rock caught last week on the roanoke DATE IS WRONG ON PICTURE

I had a nice buck coming in one afternoon(last day actually) about 4 years ago. He stopped and kept snorting at something on a tree stump. Wouldn't you know it it was a big Red Fox. Sucker was rolling all over that stump top. I was so into its antics that I let the buck slip back in. Stretched the red A few days later. Nice picture

I've ran into the same problem in the past on the Roanoke River in Scotland Neck. It wasn't that bad this year as in years past, I guess it has to with the water level here. If they can get on the bank they will if not they will fish on the dock.
