  • had a deer walk 20 yds from me and it was a big bodied deer with 3 inch spikes (shouldve been too big to be a spike) I obviously didnt shoot it but then once it was in the brush where i couldnt make a shot a fawn came out tryin to catch up with this deer like it was her mother. thats when i realized it was either a horned doe or a small old buck. This was a mature 3 year old deer with spikes. I know either way i should kill it but can a doe with genetics like that reproduce? and will it pass these genes on?

I keep looking at everyones pics of 2oo+ pound deer. Why have all the deer where we hunt smaller...the biggest was a mature 10 pointer harvested by my father and it only weighed 187...And it was in full rut.

i used a predator call box placed in the middle of a field...try and get on with a moving piece that resembles like a rabbit....i cant think of what their called. they use ditches to get closer to the call in big fields so watch those. when they poke their head out, spank em. or you can use live steel traps, the type you put bait in and see what you catch....that way if you catch your dogs you can release them.

i agree about spend the most on accersories. .270 or 7mm is all the power you need in my opinion. .308 and .300 is alot of fire power for a deer. invest in a muzzle brake to reduce recoil and a lighter trigger for lessened pull to insure accuracy...muzzle brake install should run you about 140 and getting your trigger lightened or changed out should be real cheap. The scope is where you need to be picky. high mm and fog me foggy scope when the moose steps out will make you wanna wrap your gun around a tree. cant go wrong with Leupold. good luck

A comment titled: To: Not enough hunting in response to a report titled: Sunday hunting legislation

Actually you are mistakin. I am a member of Snake Pond Dog Hunting Club and while I am a member there, I also still hunt other lands where I do not dog run. I have killed trophies in both types of hunting and I love to do both. I said in my last comment that I was taking a guess at the whole dog running thing, and yet for some odd reason you start to assume things you have no clue about. The fact remains that If I could vote on the issue I would vote yes to allowing sunday hunting. I was merely making sure that other people could see the downside of changing this law. Btw NOTENOUGHHUNTING, usually when u assume something about someone, all you do is make an ass of u and me (ass/u/me)

about the dog running thing, probably because you cant run dogs 7 days in a row. Most dogs cannot run all day everyday. Im just taking a guess here so no avid dog runners come on here callin be an idiot or anything. I am just sayin I believe that days rest lets the dogs get a well deserved break and lets the woods get back to normal.

A comment titled: Just an example in response to a report titled: Sunday hunting legislation

I was just giving one example of the way more hunting can affect our wildlife populations.we see the same thing happening in fishing...our bag limits getting smaller and size limits gettin bigger....although this extra day of hunting sounds great we must think of the consequences to our wildlife also...the same people who complain about wanting to hunt on sundays WILL be the same people complaining when they can only kill 6 doves a day or 3 rabbits a day in the near future...if you dont think it can happen. think again

A comment titled: one worry of mine in response to a report titled: Sunday hunting legislation

although I am all for hunting on sunday. I wonder what the affect to the population of wildlife will be. for instance I, like many other hnters ussually only hunt doves for two hunts durin the first season. Thats opening saturday and then that monday because its a holiday(after that bow season starts where i live). If allowed to hunt on sundays, how many more doves will be killed just in that one day across the state. Over the years wont this effect the population so much that we will have smaller and smaller bag limits? Maybe having sunday off should be thought of as a break for wildlife so we dont kill as many...Just a thought.

A comment titled: Advice in response to a report titled: Dog Hunting

My advice is to post the land with no tresspassing signs and alert the wildlife officers of the problems....start catching their dogs on sight...when u catch them call the wildlife officers. A dog hunter must be able to control their dogs and keep containment. If their dogs come on your property they should be liable for tresspassing. This is coming from a dog runner and still hunter.
