This is a full velvet 8 point I killed opening morning (09-12-15) in Chatham County. The deer came in the first few minutes of shooting light and offered me a broad side shot, at about 18 yards. There were several other deer around me, so I had to be smooth coming to full draw. The shot felt good as I released it and made a loud crack when the arrow struck him. I got down and found my arrow about 40 yards from where I originally shot him. I wasn't finding much blood, so I decided to back out and give him some time. I called a few buddies to help look for him and we went back in a couple hours later. After a few more minutes of not find much blood we called Arron Honeycutt. Arron is local Taxidermist, who has a beagle recovery dog. The dog tracked hard to a thick patch of briars. I was trying to find a path to get around the briars, when I looked up and saw his white belly shining through some brush. He hadn't run much more than 200 yards. This was one of the few deer I have killed that didn't have ground shrinkage when I put my hands on him.

That is an awesome buck. I'm glad I could be apart of the retrieval. No one deserves that buck like you do. I know you aren't afraid to put in some hard work in order to reap the benefits. And that was a pretty good tracking job by the beagle too.
