Not sure if this is the proper area to post this, but I am looking into getting a higher caliber rifle. Currently I hunt with a REM 700 243 and it does a good job just wanting to step it up. My dad has a 270win and I have been looking at browning xbolt 270wsm. I would appreciate advice as to what to get or if I even need the step up...I typically hunt in thick hardwoods and also on the edge of soybean fields. Thank you for the help.

I would definitely step up....Not that there is anything wrong with the .243 but it got it's plac...The 270 wsw would be a great move...If I am not mistaken ViperX4 that is a Mod on here has killed a ton of deer with his 270 wsw....You can't go wrong by stepping up that is for sure

Agree the .270 has enough pop to take down just about any big game.. I primarily hunt with a .308 which is an excellent deer caliber and packs plenty of punch to reach out and get any whitetail. Another good possiblity for you may be a 30-30 which is the perfect gun to hunt with in thick cover - my 2 cents anyway. Good luck!
