I here people talk about the lack of deer and people say that they are in the woods eating acorns which are in abundant. Well, the reason they are in abundant is because there are fewer deer eating them. Our harvest records are half of what they were. We are seeing 75% less deer than last year. Corn is lasting 2 weeks vs 2 days. NCWRC can say all they want, we do have a disease and it is state wide. It has been seen in every county from all I talk to. All evidence is there. They are keeping quiet about it. It's really a no brainer.

    i agree
Once again, I ain't no xpert just a huntin dude. I agree, somt'ns up. usually this time of year I usually see at least 11-20 deer on the way to/from huntin in the am/pm..I've seen 2 the entire year...I drive 35+miles one way. Usually, this time of year I see at least 10-12 deer dead on the side of the road on 540 from 401 to Leesville rd...Saturday am...I counted 0......
(used to be a good indicator when the rut peaks..lol)I read one post on here dog hunters in franklin county made three drives in one day, no deer.that's crazy...I hunt a 100 acre tract in warren county, granted it was clear cut in December, I have 1 9pt, 1 spike, 2 button bucks 2 does on a regular basis on camera. I usually could account for 8-10 different bucks and God only knows the amount of does...not no more.
I'm guessin between ehd this year and depravation permits last year put a hurtin on the deer population...I guess insurance companies are benefitin the most..If someone has access, I would be curious if deer/car collisions are down this year in nc...particularly in wake/franklin counties.
    just sayin

By the way, for those of you that are scoring...congrats cause y'all are the exception, not te rule..

    Roadkill
I will agree with you 1hunter, typically there is a two week or so window where I see numerous fresh road kill on my way into work every morning ( I40 Efland to RTP), last year I had counted 44, two weeks ago there were 2 dead one morning, 2 the next and since only 2...so either the deer have gotten smarter or...

    No doubt
The deer herd has absolutely been wiped out by something. I hunt in Orange county and used to see up to 25 different deer every time I sat in a tree, for years. This year I'm lucky to see 10, most of the time it's more like 2-8 deer if I'm lucky. I know 15 other hunters in my area and their hunting is as bad or worse than what mine is. We've not found any carcasses in the woods, nothing. Don't know what the deal is but ther is definitely something wrong with the deer population.

Yuup!! blaming it on the 'bumper crop' of acorns this year they are..check it out yo! so like in November I would see 10+ dead deer on 540 from Leesville rd to 401..on the way huntin in Warren county I would see no less than 12+ deer early am feeding along the road/under acorn trees...ain't seen $%@! this year until this past week...I was like OMG I saw 4 deer on the hoof, 2 road kill in 2 days, I was like....What?? So I had this brite idea to email the NC SHP, I asked if the deer/car collision was down this year because of the 'lack' of deer being seen. They said they could not confirm or deny that claim because all such collisions are classified as 'animal' car collisions which include dogs, cats, skunks, cows....etc you get the idea.
Somtn's up...they ain't sayin, they sayin too many acorns deer don't have to go too far to eat....however, Everybody know ol' buck will travel five miles looking for strange...I got the same deer on trail cams, no prowlin goin on where I hunt......
I go huntin anyways, just love being there..so I'll do it again tomorrow, Saturday..........
    good hunting
