Anyone hear of reports of Franklin County getting hit hard with cwd this year. I heard that it wiped out 75%of the deer population. Any word on what's what?

That would be EHD, not CWD
Epizootic Hemmorhagic Disease (EHD) is different from Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) .... EHD is caused by biting gnats and also is called blue tongue....to date there have been no reported cases of CWD in NC....the NC legislature is gonna expand the no. of deer pens in the state, though, and is in the process of moving control of CWD from the WRC to the Ag Dept., which has NO ENFORCEMENT ARM and don't have the budget to cope with testing penned deer in NC....would somebody PLEEZ TELL ME what raising deer has to do with AGRICULTURE? .... if this ain't a political ploy by deer farmers to get more deer in NC eventually so they can MAKE MORE MONEY and have PAID OFF SOMEONE for the right to do this, I think I am a Vietnamese astronaut.

    Deer Farming
The thing that separates a Mallard duck that is illegal to sell and a Mallard that is legal to sell is how it is taken or raised. If I keep domesticated Mallards, then I can process them and sell the meat whereas I can't shoot wild Mallards and sell the meat. The same is true for any type of wildlife especially deer. We can maintain a closed herd once the herd is large enough to sustain itself and keep CWD from entering while providing venison to sell to the general public. Wild deer (not penned or domesticated) can't be sold to the public. I know it's absurd, but that is how NCDA views it. Deer farming in NC could prove very useful and would create jobs, better foods, and sustain many farming enterprises. You are right though. NCDA can't control CWD like WRC can.
