  • January Jocassee Outdoor Center Trout Tournament & Fishing Report

With weather getting colder and colder, the trout fishing on Lake Jocassee keeps getting better and better. Just ask Evans Lalas of Charlotte who hauled in a 5.80 pound brown trout to win the January Jocassee Outdoor Center Trout Tournament.

Lalas said it was a tough day of fishing because the trout keep hitting short, and he kept missing fish. Around 11:00, while fishing the Three Rivers area of the lake, Lalas said that he caught the winning fish while trolling five colors of lead core line with a Dream Weaver WD Stizzle.

Anglers where scattered around the lake, and trolling live, large minnows, Apex, and Sutton spoons in 25 to 60 feet of water. Most of the tournament anglers reported catching several legal fish.

The other winners included Brent Anders of Pickens with 4.09 pounds and Ron Wilson of Pickens with 3.78 pounds.

The next Jocassee Outdoor Center Trout Tournament will be on February 15, 2014. For more information go to or call 864-944-9016.
