Jeff Bridges of Indian Trial, NC, won the Jocassee Outdoor Center Trout Tournament with the winning trout weighing-in at 4.42 pounds on Saturday, December 21.

Bridges caught his winning brown while trolling 25 feet deep with a copper/silver Sutton #44 spoon. Bridges said that he and his partner caught 15 trout that day, and five were “keepers.” “The trout fishing is just now starting to come around,” said Bridges.

Bridges spent several days practicing for the tournament, and he said that they caught their limit for the last three days. Bridges said they were catching trout from the surface to fifty feet of water on Sutton spoons and blue Apex lures.

The other winners included: 2nd place, Joseph Reece from Greenville with 3.29 pounds and 3rd place, Benny Beacham from Greer with 3.27 pounds.

Guide Sam Jones of Jocassee Charters (jocasseecharters.com or 864-280-9056) was also at the weigh-in, and he reported that the trout fishing has been good on Lake Jocassee. “The fish have finally come up shallow,” said Jones “and the fishing will pick up as the weather cools.”

The next Jocassee Outdoor Center Trout Tournament will be on January 18. For more information go to jocasseeoutdoorcenter.com or call 864-944-9016.
