  • Anatomy Of The Shot

This is a video that I shot and edited. Before anyone says anything, I will be the first to say this is not a shot to take unless you are dead confident with your abilities. This is a shot taken and discussed in a few archery circles. This is very educational for beginner archers, because you can see how easy it is to miss this shot. This doe was double lunged and shot through the heart.

Some say speed of your bow doesn't matter. Ask yourself that after watching the reaction time of this doe in 1/8 of a second slow motion. A broadside deer at ground level has a target window of 100%. When you change the angle to the target and or shoot from an elevated platform the target window closes down. This 'quartering towards' shot has a shot window of 35%. Not the best shot but possible.

Please Pray for 'Creek07' and his family.

    Can't condone it
Hat's off to your archery skills, but no matter how good you are, there are too many variables in deer reactions to make this an ethical shot. It's especially bad to post it and give meat-heads the idea that they too can take a shot like that. People will be tempted to try this when they see a big buck that just won't give them the shot widow they want and in that moment of temptation they will think, 'well, Viperx did it and got great results so i will too'. Sorry to harsh on your video, but needed to speak my mind.

    just some qustions
I completely agree with decannon first deer quarting to you at best second as shaky as you where im sure you punched the trigger witch throws you off. Another thing is that 100+/- yard shot that was not a very ethical thing to do or promote. If I read it wright you recovered that deer the next day??? At that point I would not have even thought of thinking about eating it and if you say you would take a pork chop out your fridge tonight let it get to room temperature then wrap it in a paper towel and throw it in the edge of the woods and in morning at about 11 or so cook it and eat it. I do shoot a bow a lot and shoot in archery competitions and the setup I have allows me to shoot out to 100 yards and I would have never tried it on a deer. And also why do you have 3 deferent types of arrows in your quiver they should all be different grains per inch witch will shoot different out at distance.I had a deer duck an arrow at 21 yards. Theere are just tomany things that could go wrong.

    Not being Harsh
Thanks guys and you are not being harsh. I agree with most everything you say. Not everyone should try this shot or even think of taking this shot.
This crossing had just been bush-hogged 2 hours prior to this hunt. I watched the first 2 doe do just as this one and step out and then bolt across the path and run right under me. The main reason for the post was showing the lightning fast reaction of a deer. The second reason was personal, Jeff Smith. whom I hope everyone is praying for. As far as the 3 different arrows, my bowsmith is a little behind getting my new dozen fletched, as the task of getting this farm under control is taking a toll on my arrows. The sole intention of the other arrows which vary by about 70 grains is close in shots.

Thanks for the comments and not attacks.
