Hello, I'm a new hunter in Pitt county and really would just like to learn about hunting in general. I've got a 12 gauge pump and a .22lr rifle so I might be limited. I'd love to learn anything from Duck to Dove to Deer. I work in an art related field so its difficult to find people who are interested in hunting and other outdoor activities besides tree hugging (not that conservation is a bad thing but you know). Any tips or recommendations would be well received.
    Thanks

Don't know what kinda shotgun you have but a lot of folks use specialized shotguns/chokes for duck and turkey hunting. You could probably shoot some squirrels w/ the 22lr (when season is in). For deer you could use the 12ga (I'd suggest slugs if hunting from a stand) but I prefer a rifle.
Just my .02 - Good Luck.

I killed my first several Trophies with a Old H&R Topper Model 58 Single shot 12...Slugs will kill just as well as a Rifle inside 100 yards. As far as learning, Read all you can on websites, Magazines, Videos ETC but there's no better learning than just getting out there and taking it all in for yourself because it's not always like it is on TV and different areas have wildlife that act differently.

Where are you trying to hunt, public lands or a club? I am also relatively new to hunting and have been learning all I can by spending as much time as I can in the woods just scouting for deer and hunting locations.

I am looking for public lands because I don't really have any family, nor do I know anyone with lands for hunting. I would really like to find someone I could go along with, but I understand the reality meet up with someone with a firearm also carrying a firearm. I might have found someone near me that can come along and knows more about what they're doing. I am hunting with a shotgun and would love to still hunt. Any ideas for eastern NC?
