  • Lake Hartwell Full Pond Bass Fishing

With Lake Hartwell five feet above full pond, bass anglers are having a hard time trying to figure out the fishing. The lake has not been this high since 1964.

Over the weekend very few tournament anglers came in with full bags and those that did, barely had over 10 pounds of fish.

One of the winning tactics included fishing around islands with top water lures. Spinnerbaits and Zara Spooks fished in six feet of water produced for one tournament team.

Another tournament winner reported catching his limit by fishing humps and points in 13-20 feet of water with a shaky head and Carolina rig with green pumpkin finesse worms.

Dropshot rigs and fishhead spins worked for one angler in getting his limit around bridge pilings. These fish were suspended 15 feet deep in 25 feet of water.

With all the rain that we have had, above full pond fishing is a new fishing experience for most Lake Hartwell anglers, but it is better than the lake being down 28 feet like it was a couple of years ago.
