  • Fishing Is Good As It Gets Off Hilton Head

Sebastian Luppino of Hilton Head Island proudly displays a 32 pound gag grouper that he caught on a recent offshore fishing trip near Hilton Head.

Luppino also caught several dolphins with the biggest going 37 pounds and some wahoo with the biggest weighing in at 45 pounds.

“The dolphin and wahoo bite is good trolling along the Gulf Stream, and if you come across a hard bottom, try sending some butterfly rigs down for gag grouper,” said Capt. Courtland Babcock of Southern Drawl Outfitters (843) 705-6010.

“The bite is better in the river and better than offshore for cobia,” Capt. Babcock stated. “In a recent tournament a cobia estimated at 77 pounds was caught in the Broad River.”

“The cobia river anglers are sight fishing and having good luck throwing bucktails with chartreuse and bubble gum worm trailers,” Capt. Babcock explained.

Capt. Babcock summed up by saying, “The fishing is as good as it is going to get off Hilton Head Island.”
