After a long couple weeks and plenty of close calls I finally got another bird on the ground. Went to a spot I had hunted a few weeks ago and knew there were birds in the area. Got set up in the ground blind with my son around 540am. Nothing answered the owl hoots but the first crow flew over and he sounded off about 80yds away in some tall pines on the edge of the field. I waited a few minutes and gave 3 or 4 soft tree yelps and he cut me off. I knew it was only a matter of time. I hear 2 fly down around 6 on the edge of the field but couldn't see them. I look down for a second and when I look back up here comes 2 toms running to my jake decoy to give him a beating. The strutter gives a show the whole way in and then buts right up to the decoy and starts pecking at him. needless to say I didn't let him play long. Dropped him at 15yds with the 20ga. He was dead at 6:13am. quick hunt and a good one at that.
