After a long couple weeks and plenty of close calls I finally got another bird on the ground. Went to a spot I had hunted a few weeks ago and knew there were birds in the area. Got set up in the ground blind with my son around 540am. Nothing answered the owl hoots but the first crow flew over and he sounded off about 80yds away in some tall pines on the edge of the field. I waited a few minutes and gave 3 or 4 soft tree yelps and he cut me off. I knew it was only a matter of time. I hear 2 fly down around 6 on the edge of the field but couldn't see them. I look down for a second and when I look back up here comes 2 toms running to my jake decoy to give him a beating. The strutter gives a show the whole way in and then buts right up to the decoy and starts pecking at him. needless to say I didn't let him play long. Dropped him at 15yds with the 20ga. He was dead at 6:13am. quick hunt and a good one at that.

    COOL BEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Job Mac!!! Gotta love it when they follow the script huh? Why didn't ya hand little man that 20 and do some fighting purrs and aggressive calling to see if maybe he could have knocked his pal out? It's been a wash-out here the last 24 hours but it's suppose to move out soon...Congrats again....I'm still trying to get my girlfriends nephew his 2nd...We have also came very close but haven't closed the deal yet lol.

    BTW...You have the Avian Jake?

Hey GT I actually had him set up on the other Tom with the 20ga, but my light died in the red dot so I took it off the night before. He was all about shooting the other one but remembered how the gun had kicked back and hit him in the cheek when he shot it with out the red dot. So last minute he said he didn't wanna shoot. Couldn't blame the kid hah...but the other tom stuck around at 25 yds for about 5 minutes after.

    Gotcha
lol Mac, I know what ya mean brother...My daughter shot her Gobbler opening day of Youth and the scope came back and hit her on the eye brow and left a bump and now when I mention her going again she says 'I'm not shooting that Gun with that scope anymore!!!' lol I think I will take it off next year..I mean It's a Auto so really if you miss the first shot then by the time you find your target in the scope again, It's to late...I'll just burn'em up like Ducks lol My eyesight isn't the greatest from welding for years and I like the scope at times but still think I'll try it next year without it but would have been Cool if little man would have dusted that 2nd 1 lol
