Was really excited about getting my wife her first turkey this year. New the gobblers were hot. Went to get her out of bed at 4 and she said she was gonna stay in bed. I was disappointed but went to the woods alone. got there about 530 and got my decoys set up then climbed in the blind. As sun was breaking the gobblers went nuts. Wasnt long and had a hen come in to the field. Then here come the gobblers after a little calling. Here comes two nice ones that were the big men on campus. Then a couple more then some more jakes. Then a few more hens. Finally after watching all the strutting and fighting for about 45 minutes picked the biggest one and shot him. His buddy stayed there strutting around him for another few minutes until i got out of the blind. So had my wife went she would have shot the one i shot and i would have shot his buddy. Would have been easy to have shot two by 730 Saturday morning. When i pulled the trigger there were 11 gobblers within 50 yards of me. Four shooters and 7 jakes. Was a good day would have been epic if wife was with me. Bird stats: 22 pounds, 10 inch beard, 1 inch spurs. Hopefully we get hers this week.

    Almost yesterday
Got my wife out of bed yesterday at 4 to get her in the woods. After rain stopped here comes a nice gobbler. He takes his time getting in range then finally he gets to about 30 yards and tell her to shoot. She pulls trigger and she shot a little in front of him and he runs off. Pressed for time to get her back home to get to her hair apt. We were done. Went back in the afternoon and had a jake put on a great show and got within 10 yards but not what we were looking for. Then I see what looked like and ostrich. He was a giant bird. We watched him walk the plot edge and stayed about 50 yards away never got a shot. We were both bummed about the morning miss but had a great time in the afternoon because out 12 year old daughter spent the afternoon watching turkey and deer with us. Gonna try again some this week and gonna spend all day Saturday in the woods. Still have time to get her her first one. It will definitely be well earned.
