Kirk Carter of Greenville said that they had a great day of fishing last weekend by catching both hybrids and stripers in generally the same spot all morning on Lake Hartwell.

Kirk and his brother Kent Carter started out fishing a creek near Anderson. The boys knew that they were in the right place when they saw the birds working and big balls of bait on the fish finder screen.

They first started catching hybrids from 2-5 pounds, and then as the morning wore on, the strippers started hitting. The strippers weighed from 3-10 pounds.

The brothers were live bait fishing with large minnows. They were trolling in the middle of the creek with down rods using 1 ounce weights about 18-20 feet deep, planer boards with one BB shot about 30 feet out, and flat lines with one BB shot behind the boat.

“The fishing was good until the sun got up and the bite slowed. Then the fish got very lethargic,” Carter said. “By 12:00 the bite had completely stopped.”

The final tally for the day was catching and releasing 12 and missing 8. Not a bad day of fishing.
