we just got back from there, lotta nice heads coming in. i wonder on some of the scores though some i just don't see the inches they are and some don't look like the scores are high enough. i know for a fact though they score more or less depending on who scores them.. lol, we carried 4 heads and going back tommorrow afternoon to pick them up. had a good time.

Im planning to go as well. Your right about the deer head scores. They deduct the heck out of em. If the horns are there, why not count em. You know.

    Great Time
The Show was great as usual. Stopped by the NC Sportsman booth and got my subscription. I picked up little man a picture frame for his first deer. Joco... I agree about the scores. I don't get it. I saw some studs get out scored by some scrawny racks. I had thought about taking my 8pt from last year but I dont think I will now. I have never had one scored before. Don't think I will now. Then again it's not about the score its about sharinig your pride and representing your county. I Did see some great NC deer and that is what it is all about. Congrats to everyone.

    I agree
It is showing off your trophy as well as county and giving animal credit but mine got killed on deductions also although I was up against 2-10 pointers in typical muzzleloader catagory. Saw alot of mature deer take a killing on scores especially some featured in the magazine. Nice show though havn't been in several years and first deer ever taken to show and felt our 3 year history of cat and mouse was worth the ride to show him off.

I didn't make it to the classic this year either although I was really wanting to meet a few of the posters on here. We were expecting snow here in the mountains and I didn't want to take a chance on not being able to make it back home for work Sunday morning. Glad everyone else had a great time though.
I think its great that your dedicated to doing the trash cleanup on the gamelands. Its a shame how some trash these lands. I walked a a couple weeks ago a long way onto some gameland in the mountains and a couple miles in saw beer cans thrown in the woods. I was thinking who would go to that much trouble to carry beer that far and leave their trash behind. I just don't get it.

    Dixie Deer Classic
New to the forum, but have followed your posts on here for awhile and decided to join in, i hope you don't mind having another fellow sportsman contribute to the site. I have lived, hunted and fished in NC my entire 48 years of life. I enjoy the long deer hunting season and all the hunting and fishing options NC has to participate in. I have attended the DDC every year since 1987 and over the years it has become a annual tradition. I look forward to seeing the mounts entered from all across the state and elsewhere, talking to and buying from the vendors, meeting the tv hunting personalities and seeing what is new for deer hunting, i always leave very happy with the show the Wake County Wildlife Club produces.
With that being said, 3 years ago i began to see more and more non hunting/outdoors related vendors and personalities being allowed to participate. I was disappointed to see a towing company being promoted at a hunting show. I was disappointed to see nobody at the booth of HOFH Tom Miranda (he was highly advertised) and two other icons of deer hunting with traditional long bows, brothers Barry and Gene Wensel (they received no advertising). I walked right up to all three of them on saturday between 10:30 and 11:00 am had good conversation, pictures taken, bought their merchandise and sad to say left without anyone waiting behind me. Walked around the corner and pretty much the same with Pat and Nicole Jones (highly advertised). Walked around the display area for the mounts entered in this years DDC competition at 11:30 and again at 2:30 that afternoon, there was way less mounts entered this year than i have ever seen at the classic. The attendance that morning was great, but was down that afternoon compared to years past. How does evryone feel about the DDC, are they straying away from hunting to much, was it just a off year with the economy-fuel-ammunition or are hunters tired of all the hype that hunting has been subjected to? What changes would you make to the show?

    Trash
@Diane00, Sorry You didnt make it neighter!! Hopefully next Year We'll Both Make it. I Guess im just treating the land has if where my own. i wouldnt want trash on my Land. It's not to bad on the gamelands themselfs mainly on the road ways that surround the gameland. I Saw a great need for someone to start cleaning up the roads and parking areas and then i said hey lol looks like it will be me. Ive been doing it since 07. it makes a big difference when you drive by or go to hunt when you not staring at trash. But if you want to see it clean, you'd better hurry because it will be trashed again in less-then 24hrs. makes no since to me why people do that, i reckon thats just how it is. A quick funny note; I Was picking up trash 2 years ago around the lAKE AND 2 GUYS Where fishing they asked me was i doing commuity service lol, i said no i just do it for volunteer. they said you dont get paid i said no. Then one of them said that he would never do anything For Free. lol i wanted to say something, but all i said was good luck fishing ya'll have a great day lol. i thought that was Funny!!

    Welcome!!
Welcome to the forums NCOutdoorsman!! We sure don't mind taking in newcomers....Feel free to contribute whenever you can...It really does help. The main reason I got so involved on the site was these forums...I have met some really great folks on here that I will consider friends for a lifetime...

Now, on to the DDC. I am with you man. I look forward to going every year. I have went the past 7-8 years straight. The last 3 years I have went on Friday and Saturday. I went this past Friday and the crowd was the usual. I went back Saturday morning and it was busy as usual. I thought it was kind of weird that I walked right up to Pat & Nicole, Tom Miranda and Steve Rinella but I would have had to weight 1 hour or more to see the Lizard Lick crew....I mean c'mon. Some of you may be fans but it is another fake & ridiculous reality show that is not even reality.....This is the Dixie Deer Classic....A hunting show.......Granted it is bringing more people to the show but most of us could care less to see them or meet them. What really surprised about the crew is that the main dude is a preacher.....Anyway enough of that. WE still had a great time as usual and I will be there bright early next year lol....

    Again Welcome to the Forums!!

    cleanup
It sure does make a difference when people treat the land as their own. I think it even makes it more appealing to the wildlife to stay in a cleaner area. Reading your comment made me think of Gracie when she was a little younger. She would get so mad when she would be in the woods with me or at the lake and see 'glitter',as she pronounced it,lol.(litter) She would say,'come on peoples,I gotta live here.' Its true that the trash we leave behind is going to be around for future generations. Thanks Chad for volunteering your time.

ncoutdoorsman, first off welcome to the site and glad you joined in.
I was thinkin' close to the same @ the DDC. There really weren't as many heads this year - I haven't looked up the harvest report #'s but maybe with the Rut activity happening mostly at night due to the full moon, the #'s were down.?
I have enjoyed the antics on the recreation of the towing show but couldn't believe the line to see them versus the line to see the actual hunting folks. Anyone that didn't talk to Tom Miranda really missed out - he was so 'down to earth' and talked to us like he had known us for a good while. When he spoke about his hunts you could tell that he had a true passion for hunting. I saw several folks over at Pat and Nicole but I think a lot of guys just wanted there pic with Nicole. LOL - I don't blame 'em.
Several years back there seemed to be a lot more vendors with deer hunting equipment - someone was selling Summit treestands 3 or 4 years ago. I actually got some really good deals on some things then. The only thing I've bought the past few years are the raffle tickets. I really liked it when there was more deer hunting items there. I also talked to the guys from NC Hunter Supply out of Raleigh about a bow and they were some really cool guys.
Anyway just my .02 - hope you stick around and chime in.

Welcome NCOutdoorsman..I also was surprised at how I walked right up to Pat and Nicole Reeve and had them sign my BOWTECH Hat lol Mathews would love that lol But I couldn't find Tom Miranda and didn't hear anyone talk about him in the crowd but I have always liked him..Like last year with Greg Miller and his Son...I walked right up to them also but as mentioned The Lizard Lick line was stupid long...I did like to see all the Turkey stuff of course but alot of things made me scratch my head and ask WTH? As I said in another Post...If it wasn't for the Deer heads and Tree-stands...I would have thought I was at a Turkey/Duck Call show lol
