U.S. Third District Congressman Jeff Duncan was in the upstate Friday visiting several local gun shops as part of his “Second Amendment Listening Tour.”

Duncan said that he believes in the Second Amendment and that he scheduled this tour to “spend time listening to the people of the Third District” and give his views on what he called, “an assault on the Second Amendment.”

“I believe in a strict interpretation of the Second Amendment and that it should not be infringed,” Duncan said. The Congressman has “vocally opposed the President for considering ‘executive action’ to unilaterally restrict gun rights.”

Duncan went on to say that he plans to fight against U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein’s introduction of a bill to stop the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

The Congressman did say that he is open to talks on background checks and conversations on mental health. “Mental health, rather than gun control is the issue that Washington should address.”

Duncan stated that he has sent a letter to the CEO of Remington Arms and invited him to relocate operations in South Carolina after New York adopted new gun restriction laws.
