For the new users of the site...I thought I would share these pictures of a great buck hunt that I was involved in back in 2002 in my home county of Fayette in West Virginia...This is Jess Kelly and he was a former Boyfriend of my cousin and he shot this 229 7/8 Buck on public Land along the New River Valley on our annual opening day Buck hunt...170 Yard neck shot while he was following a Doe....He sold this Buck to Cabelas for 6K and it's currently a Full Body Mount at the WV Cabelas...Truly a remarkable whitetail and is still Number 2 in the State...I held these antlers the day after he killed it and they weighed around 12 Pounds. He don't hunt for horns and was just hoping to get some meat...AWESOME Buck!!!!

    Great Buck
Another Buck from my Hometown...Anthony Reese killed this great buck walking a logging Road behind my Old Home in 2000...It was over 26 inches inside. I have held these Antlers also and could fit my big ol head between the brow tines.

    Yeah I know
Yeah lol justin, His story was in Nov 2003 of North American Whitetail...He was on the ground watching Squirrels and was fixing to leave when The Doe appeared. In a sad twist, he bought a ATV and had a very bad accident after he sold the rack.

THose are some huge deer and killed in your hometown. Do you ever go back and deer hunt there? I would dern sure try if I was you. I would be heartbroken to sell a 229 7/8 whitetail rack lol, at least more people get to see it and possibly get inspired.

Yeah Outdoor Life, The second pic was killed within rock throwing distance of my old home place and yeah...There some huge deer killed that people never hear about...They just humble ol Country Boys and nail the Racks up and that's where this 229 was for a few days and everyone was telling him that he was crazy!!! LOL I couldn't believe he sold it but he was only 25 at the time and 6K is alot of money to any West Virginia Boy lol The Mount at cabela's is a FULL Body mount chasing a Doe...I got a pic I'll try and dig up..It's truly a remarkable buck!!! The 2nd Buck hung in the local Walmart for a few years because his Girlfriend at the time wouldn't let him hang it in the house lol...You remember the little Chevy aspire cars? I think that's the name but that's what he hauled this deer in and it was stretched from dash board to rear window when I first seen it LOL!!!!!

    LOL
If im thinking about the right I bet that was a sight lol and I think the girlfriend and me would have been arguing bad over that deer lol. I cant believe the other guy cut the rack off he must have not known what he had or like many older folks i know just dont care to have one mounted oh well theres nothing wrong with that. Seems to still be many good people and beutiful true rural country in your hometown.

Buddy You would NOT believe the Bucks those Guys just nail up on the porch!!! Heck they laugh at what I have mounted lol...I'll have to tell ya the story sometime about the Sale of that rack...it's a Good 1 for sure..I missed a buck in 1997 with a rifle that had to be 180 or better...I was exhausted and breathing hard from climbing the mountain and he trotted right out in front of me and I couldn't hole the gun still shooting free-handed...still makes me sick!!!!!!

That's what everyone is saying...I have seen my share but mostly small Bucks until today...I wanted to take a Doe but fresh rubs and scrapes all around this area and being the 1st day I have hunted it this year I decided to take my chances and wait.

Man, you post some cool stuff. I've been there and I know things can be tough in most of WV. I can't blame him for selling him and it's nice that the whole country can enjoy him now at Cabelas. Wow, what a buck. I wouldn't even know how to act. I bet he was 250+ on the hoof.
There are some real giants in that state.

Thanks arevels, And yes there are some Giants back home!!! I missed a Deer in 1997 that I would guess was a 180 inch buck and yeah the body was crazy...It was all that ATV wanted and couldn't keep the wheels on the ground lol...It was the Longest Body on a deer I had ever seen...Seems like it was weighed but I don't remember the weight.

Nice buck, too bad my cousins ugly face is stuck in there to mess it up lol. Good to see someone keeping his pic around to be recognized for this monster. Not many pay attention to WV, especially out in our stretch of woods.
