This has been a frustrating season for me. Had bunch of nice bucks on cam prior to ML and a really big hope for my boy to harvest his first wall hanger. Needless to say that has not happened. I think the full moon during the rut really through a monkey wrench into things and now we've been hard pressed to see any deer for the past couple weeks.
I know that's 'hunting' but sure is frustrating. lol
Anyway, took out a little of my frustration on this big 'ol gal. She was a big healthy doe and should make a good amount of jerky. ;)

    Frustrating season
Im right there with u buddy. This season had been awful until last night. I jumped in my stand I put up Saturday morning at 4:15. It was raining lightly and I figured i would toot on the ole grunt call. I grunted one time and a doe came running withing 5 yards of my stand.(never had a doe come to a grunt call) Then I grunted again around 5 and I saw two deer come up a ridge to me, and one deer behind them that looked 'BIG'. So I grunted once more and the two does came running to me. I thought to myself this is really weird. Then it got even crazier when I noticed the big deer I saw was a good 8 point that ive been after but havent see it in daylight hours. Then it started to rain harder, I grunted once more and the buck started making noises ive never heard in my life. It seriously sounded like the 'Predator'. Thats all I can relate it to honestly. It may have been tending grunts, but they were so fast it had me absolutely amazed. Long story short the buck walked about 45 yards away thru a thicket and then came 25 yards broadside. I let out the maaaaaa, he stopped and i aimed the crossbow and shot. I heard a big whackkkkk. and he took off. Thirty minutes later i decided it was time to go take a look. I called my buddy to come help me track. I found a blood trail for 60-70 yards and then ........nothing. I looked till I couldnt walk anymore. I had to work today, so two of my buddies looked for over two hours, and couldnt find him either......Im thinking I hit him in the shoulder. So basically my season went from awful to terrible in a matter of a few hours. Im meat hunting till the season is out, but at least I was fortunate to take my first deer with a rifle last weekend. About a 130lb doe.......Good luck the rest of the season.....GO GET EM

Nice doe Justin. I have really enjoyed hunting my first deer season. And although I have taken only one doe,I have had a lot of fun just being in the woods and seeing the turkey and squirrel.Season ends here Saturday, but I do plan on hunting once more with my Dad after Christmas.Hopefully I can get at least one more doe,if not theres always next year I guess.I'm already looking forward to turkey season myself, lol.

    Season
Congrats on that big old doe....Definitely big enough for a LOT of jerky lol....IT has been a slow season around here as well....NOt sure what the difference has been this year. Weather wise it has been a pretty good season but the animals have just not cooperated as much as they have the past couple season...I have had little to no response from calls or anything this year....Maybe the late season will be the ticket....

    Best eating for sure!
Atleast, you know you can still shoot straight! Now your ready for the big one! It does seem sometimes the deer won't follow the script. You put in the work and the crop just won't grow! This is not something we can patent! I have wondered if I was trying to hard! When it is meant to be it will happen! I have had a good year and have put a three year plan into action. I will manage my herd, and I will shed hunt while squirrel and rabbit hunting. And of course, I plan on a better food plot this coming year. My hunt season hasn't gone as planned, but that is why the long term plan is so cool. Just look at Novembers Bag a buck winner. He had the deer he called high n tight on cam the year before. He had a awesome imperial clover plot this summer and trail cam photos, and finally got the deer. It makes the harvest, so much more sweeter when you work through your plan, learning as you go. I wonder how many doe's he harvested before he got his trophy. It will help the herd to take the doe's. It is proven. If the doe's haven't taken yet! They will come in heat again near the full moon at the end of December. Remember, bucks will chase all year if the doe's haven't taken. It can still happen for us! And even if they have taken. He still is looking, even after his antlers drop!

Congrats on the meat and what a fat doe at that. Sweet looking rifle....is that a Rem 700?

I have a composit stock on my Savage. When I bought it, everyone asked why I got compost and I told them I didn't want a gun so pretty I was afraid to hunt with it. I wish I had gotten the stainless barrel now!

    Browning
It's a Browning A-bolt Stainless Stalker (30.06). This is the gun that replaced the Savage I blew up if you remember those pics.
I really like this gun and I'm about sold on the stainless especially on a ML.
