  • Greenville Saltwater Sportfishing Club Inshore Tournament

The Greenville Saltwater Sportfishing Club recently held their last inshore tournament of the year on Edisto Island. The anglers said that they only caught about six reds and six flounder, but the trout bite was on.

Bait seemed to be everywhere, but the trout were mainly in one spot which was near the Intercostal Waterway at Wadmalaw Point. The anglers said that when the sun popped out, and the wind dropped, they caught fish moving with the current.

What surprised the anglers was that they caught more trout on the Berkly Gulp shrimp in white under a popping cork than on live shrimp. The anglers did better anchoring up and casting than trolling.

The winners of the tournament included: Howard Hill with a 25 inch red; Jim Galbreath with a 4.38 pound flounder, and Mark Rogers with a 2.4 pound trout.
